Ballot Initiative Approved!

The ballot initiative to propose a constitutional amendment limiting benefits for illegal aliens has been approved by Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel. This initiative is very similar to the act we submitted last year. The approved initiative will soon be up for viewing and downloading. We will then need to gather enough signatures to put the initiative onto the 2010 election ballot.

Time to get signatures!

Congress will try to sneak Amnesty through as well:

Activism needed to stop Amnesty

Amnesty (aka Comprehensive Immigration Reform) is making a comeback. Just like the last amnesty attempt, this one is being sneaked through behind closed doors. We need committments from leaders that they will vote no on any immigration plan that gives an path to citizenship. Below is an email about the amnesty situation.

++ Obama Meeting to Push AmnestyYesterday, the White House said that immigration reform is unlikely to move forward this year. Then in the next breath, they announced a closed-door meeting with bi-partisan lawmakers this Thursday to discuss the issues! The on again, off again White House meeting is back on again, and I'm calling on members of the Grassfire and ResistNet team to unleash a firestorm of faxes and phone calls protesting what is most certainly a closed-door meeting to strategize the best way to move comprehensive immigration reform forward.
*** Check out the "Resist Net In Focus :Amnesty Is Coming" article to see how you can help. (Located in middle column of the ResistNet home page.)
++ Carbon Tax Fast-Tracked We have just learned that Pelosi and key Democrats have struck yet another back-room deal to force a floor vote massive cap- and -trade Carbon Tax to the House this Friday. Our reports indicate that many members of Congress, especially Democrats in agriculture and coal state, are still undecided.Check out the "ResistNet In Focus: The Carbon Tax" to see how you can help! (located in the middle column of the ResistNet home page.)Thanks so much for all of your help! Visit Patriotic Resistance at: http://www.resistnet.comHere's a video of how difficult it is to get a committment from a legislature about how they will vote on an obviously bad bill:

Jihadist crashes shooting site!

Secure Arkansas organized a rally in rememberance of the first terrorist attack since 9/11. Pvt. William Long was killed and Pvt. Quinton I. Ezeagwula was wounded by Carlos Leon (aka Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad). Channel 11 was the only TV crew out there with a camera, and the AR Dem Gazette sent a reporter and a photographer. The event had several speakers who did a wonderful job. Video footage of them will be uploaded soon. However, the most shocking part of the event was when a muslim fanatic crashed the event. The fanatic drove by and yelled at us, then parked in the parking lot and stood out with a homemade sign yelling anti-American and later anti-Semetic comments. Had this been a ceremony for Tiller, this would have been the top story for both local and national media. Since it isn't a top story, it's up to you to send this to as many people as possible. In case youtube deletes the video or the account, here are multiple links to see and share the video footage.

Demand no Compromise for Illegal Aliens

In 1986, The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 was signed into law to end illegal immigration. Since then, there have been 7 more amnesties, several million more illegal immigrants in the U.S., no secure borders, and a worse immigration system. The pro-illegal immigration agenda will again attempt to push an amnesty disguised as “comprehensive immigration reform”. They will set the agenda that the only type of immigration reform that is possible is one that gives some path to citizenship for those illegally in the country. With the help of the media, they will ignore and malign the successes of attrition and enforcement laws such as HB1804 in Oklahoma and the efforts of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Now is the time for Arkansas citizens to contact Lincoln, Pryor, and their Representative and demand a commitment that they will oppose any immigration reform bill that includes a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. It doesn’t matter how “bi-partisan” the bill is or how much the pro-illegal agenda will claim it doesn’t do enough, any path to citizenship for illegals will not solve illegal immigration. There will more drugs, more deaths by illegal alien crime, more disease outbreaks, and a greater threat for terrorist attacks.

Would you die for an illegal immigration bailout?

During the Clinton Administration, +$20 billion was given to the Mexican Government to bailout the declining peso, 100 times the bailout to AIG, not including inflation. This was after defending Mexico and the rest of the world from the Nazis (National Socialist German Workers’ Party), the Communist (Union of Soviet Socialist Republic), Islamic Terrorist (Islamofacism), and becoming the backbone of the world's economy. Mexico has since spiraled downward into a failed state and 3rd world warlord nation. Only massive public pressure has forced the current Mexican Administration to go after some of the Cartels along the US border, (only so that the flow of neglected Mexican citizens can continue). There have been no ACORN funded protest.

In addition to billions of dollars in aid, the US taxpayer has also been given the responsibility of millions of neglected citizens from Mexico, without the chance to find out who they are. We have the same system with other countries, including countries that sponsor terrorism. This system is responsible for lower wages, the deaths 25 Americans a day from crime, terrorism, and disease. Now that the Mexican Swine Flu has spread across the world, the Obama Administration has decided to keep the lawless Mexican borders open in name of "free trade" with the failed state. Just like the Bush Administration, Obama has favored the unconstitutional (SPP) Security and Prosperity Partnership, which favors open borders even when dealing with a pandemic.

We have already had the tragic story of a toddler coming across the Mexican Border and dying in Houston, TX. How many US citizens were in contact with that child? What will the administration say if several US citizens catch the Mexican Swine Flu from an illegal alien who crossed the border a week from now? Will the unamed companies that "need fair trade" provide healthcare for those infected. If Congress passes an amnesty, will the same immigration system that legalized 2 of the Fort Dix Terror Cell make sure that nobody infected with a 3rd world disease be given legal status? If we do pass an amnesty, will Mexico finally become a real country? If the people of the United States of America do not take action, the greatest nation ever will suffer even more from the problems of the 3rd world.

Illegal immigration disease

The swine flu has killed several people in Mexico and has had several non-lethal cases across the world. This flu was most likely caused by third-world economic conditions from Mexico. Immigration reform groups such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) have been warning about threat of disease from illegal immigration for years. Pro-illegal immigration groups, such as the Souther Poverty Law Center, have accused those who warn of illegal alien disease of being Anti-Immigrant. Here's a quote from the SPLC "Overall, FAIR blames immigrants for crime, poverty, disease, urban sprawl and increasing racial tensions in America, and calls for a drastic cut in the numbers of those allowed in."
Here's the actual warning about disease from FAIR:

http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=iic_immigrationissuecenters64bf

While everybody is talking about the swine flu, very few are talking about the open border that allows 3rd world diseases to enter the US. ALIPAC is talking about what the media is doing everything to avoid here:http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-154394.html
____________________
You would think that the swine flu would end any possibility of an amnesty, but it appears to have only delayed the effort a few days. From the same ALIPAC forum I was able to find out that a hearing will take place Thursday . Here's a statement from that forum "The hearing on "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2009, Can We Do It and How?" scheduled by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Refugees will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. rather than the previously scheduled date of Tuesday, April 28. Here's a link to the U.S. Judiciary Committee meeting that includes a link to committee members:http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=3793 . Now is the time to contact Senators and tell them no Comprehensive Immigration Reform of any kind.

After the Tea Party Events

The Arkansas Tea Party was a great event, now we need to continue the effort. In dealing with the 2010 elections, most believe in kicking out the incumbents who voted for the bailouts. The bailouts allowed illegals to steal thousands of construction jobs and even gave them tax refund checks. Of course we need to get good candidates to replace them. Gilbert Baker and Tim Griffin are possible candidates for replacing Blanche Lincoln. If anybody has any info on these possible candidates or other candidates, let us know.  We need to vet them now and look for other candidates.

There are several events to attend for conservatives. Saturday April 17th at noon, the Libertarians will meet at Vino's. On April 25th, several leftist will gather to indoctrinate the public into believing in the Global Warming/Climate Change/No US industry Agenda. The global warming agenda has cost the taxpayers millions and is the main reason why we buy fossil fuels from other nations instead of using our own fossil fuels. Most people don't that a lot of our oil comes from Mexico, which maybe the reason that the US continues to put up with the lazy, corrupt, and arrogant Narco-Regime that is the Mexican Government. I think it would be great to counter-protest this event with signs and handing out info showing the truth about the Global Warming Agenda. Details of the event are below:

When: Saturday, April 25, 2009. Festival hours are 10 am to 3 pm

Where: Festival is on the grounds of the North Little Rock Riverfront Park between the Main Street and Broadway bridges

Why: These events aim to motivate, educate, and energize all Arkansans and their families, businesses, and government to take positive action for our a clean and healthy environment while celebrating Earth Day.

Arkansas Tea Party and Liberal Protest

The Arkansas Tea Parties for Central Arkansas went well today. Several organizations participated in the events. The meeting at the State Capitol had over 2,000 people attending and had most media outlets covering it. KeepArkansasLegal members attended and handed out information about illegal immigration. We also had an anti-amnesty banner. Here are some news links below along with a description of how they covered the event and a slideshow:

Now it's dead (and other stuff)

SB799, the in-state tuition for illegal aliens bill, has been Recommended for study in the Interim Committee on Education. This is a nice way saying that the bill is dead! Our latest intel indicated that it needed 2 more Senate votes before it could go to the House and then the Governor. We're pretty sure that neither the House nor Governor Beebe would have passed this bill, but by killing this bill in the Senate, we have sent a message to everyone that Arkansas will not support another bailout to the neglected citizens of other countries.

We only got 1 bill passed that made a partial effort to reform illegal immigration. The resolution to remove Arkansas from the Constitutional Convention and the State's Rights Resolution both failed. While we stopped SB799, we were unable to stop a bill that creates a racial profiling taskforce. This taskforce will be appointed by the Governor and will have to include at least 3 members who are from "Civil Rights" organizations.

The legislative session is over until next year which will be a budget session. We now have to work on the Tea Parties, fundraising for conservative issues, contacting the Federal Government, lobbying in city government, and working on a ballot initiative. I would like to thank all of the activist who contacted the Arkansas Congress and helped out in carrying our agenda.

IT'S BACK (SB799 up again!)

SB799, the Arkansas in-state tuition for illegal aliens bill, is on the Senate agenda for Friday April 4th for the afternoon session. They are trying to sneak this bill through just like they did during the Senate Education Committee. We need calls, emails, and as many activist to come by the Arkansas Capitol. Last time, the AR Senate started at 1:30pm and SB799 was behind about a dozen bills and didn't get reached until around 4:00pm. This time, it will probably be up around 2:00pm or so. Here is the link to the bill from the AR legislature:

Joyce Elliott commented that there was no presence in the hallway in support of SB799, there is a possibility that the pro-illegal alien crowd may decide to show up. Here's a report of what happened the last time we dealt with SB799.

The State's rights resolution has also passed in is up for a vote in the House 040309:

Report on SB799

Several Conservative activist from Secure Arkansas arrived at the Senate around noon and took positions in front of the Senate. We were able to flag down a few Senators as they moved around before the session started. We also talked to some state representatives who let us know that they would vote SB799 down if it reached the Arkansas House. We decided to use a posterboard sign that was very effective in getting our message to the senators and the media. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette was the first to talk to us. The rest waited until after the vote. There were several bills before SB799 so we had to wait until around 4:00pm before SB799 came up. We kept people outside, including myself, while others went into the Senate Gallery. There were only a few supporters of SB799 in the gallery and only one who appeared to lobby. Rita Sklarr of the ACLU showed up and chatted with a few senators. More here:

SB799 fails. No tuition for illegals!

SB799, the in-state tuition for illegal aliens bill, was defeated in the Senate Education Committee. I want to thank all those who called their legislators about SB799. Several Conservative groups participated in stopping this bill from passing, including keeparkansaslegal. The Senate was suppossed to adjorn around 2:00pm, but it ended up being around 3:00pm. Joyce Elliott first introduced SB799 and then took questions from the Senators. Senator Kim Hendren asks Joyce Elliott about the legal problems that will occur if SB799 were to pass. Joyce Elliott attempts to claim that the legal problems have been somehow resolved and then claims that it doesn't really matter. After this video, there is testimony from those for and against SB799. That video footage will be posted at a later time.

US Senate supporting illegal immigration

Got this in my email from Grassfire:
From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance

The Senate is voting on yet another massive spending bill -- the$410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that contains more than 2,900 pages.Worse yet, the bill is laden with 8,500 pork-filled earmarks-- including $473,000 for National Council of La Raza! As you know, La Raza (which means "The Race") is a far-left Latino groupthat has brazenly promoted amnesty and even supported radical Mexicannationalism within our borders. In addition, the spending bill includes…
--$1.8 million for pig odor and manure management
--$200,000 for a "tattoo-removal violence-outreach program" in Los Angeles
--$1.9 million for a water taxi service in Connecticut

Just as bad, the bill does not require competitive bid which willlead to corruption and insider deals for our tax dollars! Well-connectedfriends of members of Congress and the lobbyists will get the contractswithout even having to compete for them!+ + Fax the Senate now and say "Purge The Pork"President Obama who once pledged to go line-by-line to remove wasteful spending now says it's too late to purge the pork from the spending bill. Well, heis wrong! Late last week, the Senate did not have the votes to pass the bill andsome Democrats are now saying they will oppose this pork-laden version ofthe omnibus spending bill. The vote will be very close! That s why I m asking every team member to take action right now in two important ways:

#1 -- Fax your two Arkansas senators and 10 key senators right now(these are the most vulnerable and most likely to be swayed by grassrootspressure). Go here to use our FaxFire system to schedule your faxes or to get the contact information to send your own faxes:http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?U=16838&CID=112&RID=16729596
We must flood the Senate with faxes immediately.

#2 -- Call your two senatorsAfter scheduling your faxes, call your Arkansas senators and tell themyou oppose the omnibus spending bill. Urge them to vote "NO" as long as it has 8,500 pork-laden earmarks in it. Sen. Lincoln 202-224-4843 Sen. Pryor 202-224-2353
(You can also use the main Senate Switchboard at (202-224-3121)

We re hearing that the first key vote is expected this evening -- with other crucial votes expected as soon as Tuesday.Kenneth, we have a window of opportunity to short-circuit this massivepork bill, but I am completely dependent on your help right now. Please... take action and tell the Senate to "Purge The Pork."Steve Elliott, President Grassfire.org

P.S. After scheduling your faxes and calling your senators, please forward this message to your friends urging them to take action with you by clicking here:

Got this in my email about an event I posted earlier:
Announcing a new Meetup for Central Arkansas Campaign for Liberty (AR 2nd CD)!
What: Arkansas Tea Party!
When: March 14, 2009 5:00 PM
Where: Peabody Hotel Little Rock Arkansas
Meetup Description: As a result of Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC earlier this week, there is now a nationwide movement to hold tea parties at various locations throughout the US in order to protest Washington's economic policies and liberal spending bills! Conservatives, Liberals, and Independents are all involved in this effort! Talk about bipartisan support...this movement is full of bipartisan support! Perhaps the Adminstration and our no good, spend, spend, spend, and spend some more Congress could learn a thing or two from this effort! First, they are going to have to get their heads out of their asses! Perhaps this movement will get their attention! This will be a peaceful rally to unite our voices and express the love that we have for our great nation and the principles it was founded on. We want our politicians to hear loud and clear that we are tired of the bailouts, the wasteful Washington spending and the push towards the socialization of this country! We want less government! We want to decide where our hard earned money goes instead of Washington taking it and using it to buy votes, doling it out to special interest groups and pork barrel projects! We want our constitutional rights preserved and protected, not trampled on!Let's exercise our right to free speech and be a part of history as the peaceful reclamation of our country is underway!
We will be assembling March 14th outside the Peabody Hotel at 5pm. It just so happens that our very own Blanche Lincoln will be kicking off her 2010 campaign with all of Arkansas' Washington representatives and even Joe Biden will be attending.I have had a few questions about what is needed, as of right now we need no money, all we ask is for you to bring yourself and anyone who you can muster. Bring tasteful to the point signs, a clever chant, and an idea of what to say if you are interviewed. Remember we want to be heard not laughed at so keep things simple and to the point. Stay away from tangents and lets stick to the issue: Washington works for ME!Learn more here:

Crime and Illegals

Chandra Levy murdered by illegal alien?Law Enforcement Examiner ^ 2/21/09 Jim Kouri
Posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009 10:25:43 AM by FromLori
This past weekend, the mainstream news media were breathlessly reporting that an arrest of a Salvadorian immigrant for killing a young Washington, DC woman named Chandra Levy is imminent.
The case originally received so much media attention that she became a household name. While the media continue their fascination with this case, they have -- for the most part -- failed to identify the suspect as an illegal alien already locked up in prison for previous attacks on American women, preferring to call him an immigrant or a Salvadorian National.

Think it can't happen in Arkansas? Take a look at these stories that happened just this month!www.nwaonline.net/articles/2009/02/09/news/
BENTONVILLE — A rape case was dropped Monday against a Rogers man because prosecutors said they can't locate the victim.Arnulfo De Jesus Escobar, 24, has been in jail since his June arrest on charges of rape, aggravated assault on a family or household member and terroristic threatening.Prosecutors can refile within one year.Escobar was accused of breaking into a home on West Linda Lane and raping a woman there. He has a hold through the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Defense attorney Louis Lim of Bentonville objected to the dismissal, saying his client was ready for trial today.

SPRINGDALE -- A routine traffic stop Thursday along Interstate 540 led to the arrest of 16 undocumented immigrants from Mexico looking for employment. At 6 p.m., a Springdale officer saw several people inside the Ford Excursion during the traffic stop. The officer recognized the driver, Ivan Soto Trejo, 20, as being previously deported in November 2008, according to a Springdale police news release. All 16 people were taken into custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police would not say were on I-540 the traffic stop took place or if the group was headed to this area or just passing through.

A study done by US Representative Steve King of Iowa showed that 12 Americans are murdered daily by illegal aliens and 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers, making an annual death toll of 4,745. More Americans are killed by Mexico’s sponsoring of illegal immigration than by Iran’s sponsoring of terrorism. Other stats about illegal alien crime can be found at http://immigrationcounters.com/. We may not be able to stop illegal immigrant crime throughout the US, but we can at least reduce it here in Arkansas.

Everyone call and write your reps and senators to get behind this resolution! Writing handwritten letters and personally hand delivering the letters with the resolution enclosed is the most effective form of lobbying.I will be going to the capitol with friends of liberty one day in the next week or two. If you want, I'll gladly hand deliver your letter for you to your representative and senator regarding this bill if you cannot make it in person. Please pass this message on to everyone you know in the State of Arkansas. How sweet the day is, friends of liberty. How sweet the day is. Let's get on it!

The silent Majority & ID thief at church

I saw this from the Glenn Beck Show: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,491985,00.html

I have been telling you about the You Are Not Alone project and the Nine Principles — principles that have made this country great. I didn't pull these out of thin air. I borrowed from scripture. I got them from the Founding Fathers. And honestly, a lot of these principles are just common sense. This is not a partisan thing. This is not about elephant or donkey, liberal or conservative. This is about Americans making their voices heard.Part 1 of this project: Read the Nine Principles. And, if you believe in at least seven of them, e-mail your photo to: wesurroundthem@foxnews.com

Apparently some in the Catholic Church are o.k. with an illegal alien ID thief working as a staff member of a church. I want to say that I know for a fact that many Christians oppose the illegal alien agenda and will be appalled at this behavior.

Bishop's pastoral letter hits home for parish employee By Marilyn Lanford-Rogers Correspondent

ROGERS -- In November, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released his first pastoral letter to Catholics in the Diocese of Little Rock called, "I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me: A Pastoral Letter on the Human Rights of Immigrants." In the weeks that followed, staff members at St. Vincent de Paul Church gathered to meet and discuss the pastoral letter. It was at the end of one of the meetings that staff members were asked if they had any experiences related to immigration. A slender, dark-haired young woman, Soledad Hernandez, stood and told her story. "I was arrested here in Rogers on June 26, 2001, at the bank where I was working because my social security number was false. An immigration officer and a private detective came to the bank and asked me for my documents, but I didn't have anything. The officer asked me if I knew my rights, and he wanted me to sign a voluntary deportation paper. I said 'No.' He said, 'In that case, you are going to need a lawyer.'"
At the time, Hernandez had lived in Rogers for 10 years. Considering Hernandez a flight risk, the officers of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (now known as Citizenship and Immigration Services) "did not want me to post bond. I have four brothers in Chicago, one sister in California and one brother in Arizona." For the next five weeks, Hernandez stayed in the Washington County jail. During Hernandez' time in jail, several people reached out to her. Father Miles Heinen, a Vincentian priest working with the Catholic Charities Immigration Services in Springdale, and Sister Mary Paulita Philippe, a Dominican nun, were able to locate legal aid for Hernandez through the Northwest Arkansas chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens. more here...
http://www.arkansascatholic.org/article.php?id=1622

In light of this story, I have a link to the article that shows how Christians should deal with illegal immigration. It is shocking that an ID thief would be able to work at a bank and now works at a church! I'm personally disgusted to see that an illegal alien/ID thief can jump ahead of the thousands of those trying to enter legally. Perhaps the most shocking part of this story is the apparent pride by the Catholic Church in helping an illegal alien cheat the system. Perhaps Soledad Hernandez can show the kiddies how to steal an SSN# or lie to get a job during Sunday School!

Jihad Camps and Stimulus

I saw this on freerepublic.com. I was suprised to see that several of these "Jihad Camps" were in the Bible Belt. I don't know if any are in Arkansas:

For several months now I have been documenting the comparisons between the UK and the USA in regards to Islam and Muslim immigration. Now another disturbing comparison has come to light. That both of our countries have numerous Islamic training camps set up right under our noses. All while our governments are too politically correct to take action. The Islamic training camps here in America were exposed by The Christian Action Network. Here is what they have uncovered.

LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas will receive about $2.1 billion from the federal stimulus package that just passed Congress, federal figures show.About $358 million will go for highways and will probably go into multiple projects all around the state rather than into any one big project, state Highway and Transportation Department director Dan Flowers said in an interview. Which projects will benefit is a decision that will be made by the state Highway Commission, he said.

Another story about the Porkulus Bill:

According to the CBO, the stimulus bill will actually hurt the economy in the long run. However, there is the possibility it will stimulate illegal immigration. In addition to providing up to 300 thousand construction jobs for illegal aliens, the bill will bail out irresponsible states like California. This will allow them to avoid dealing with one of the primary reasons they have a budget deficit. That reason is the extensive and expensive social net they have extended to illegal immigrants. When you couple this stimulus bill with the collapsing state of the Mexican economy and government, we could see a tidal wave of new migrants heading across the border by the end of this year. more here...

There is a bill written by Jim Nickels that would allow the contractors licensing board to punish contractors that knowingly hire illegals HB1383. While so far this appears to be a good bill, it doesn't require businesses to use any verification system. When Petit Jean Poultry was raided by ICE and caught hiring over hundred illegals (including a 14 year old girl), they simply denied knowing the workers were illegal. A larger immigration reform bill that will include requiring businesses to verify their workers will be needed. We hope that Rep Nickels and other sponsors of HB1383 will support immigration reform legislation that takes away the "we didn't know excuse" from corrupt businesses.

Legislative Update 020209

While bills that deal with illegal immigration are on hold for the moment, there are some other bills that effect illegal immigration. This was fowarded from Secure Arkansas.

We must act immediately - this bill could be voted on as early as Wednesday, February 4th. DO NOT BE FOOLED - Governor Beebe speaks about this cigarette tax funding a Trauma Center, but this money will go directly in to the General Fund and is not designed for a Trauma Center. The governor has also spoken about funding 20 other "Health Related" programs....and we already know that ILLEGALS have access to all health benefits. Direct excerpt from the bill:(d) The revenue derived from the additional tax imposed by this section shall be credited to the General Revenue Fund Account of the State Apportionment Fund, there to be distributed with the other gross general revenue collections for that month in accordance with the Revenue Stabilization Law, § 19-5-201 et seq.
www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2009/R/Bills/HB1204.pdf
The Trauma Center is just an extension of Emergency Rooms which Illegal aliens now use for all their health care problems. First let me say that this is not a partisan call to action, it just happens that the Republicans can stop this bill if they stand together. The 300 Million dollar surplus means we have been taxed too much. We are aware that Governor Beebe is trying to buy all legislators' votes with the promise of pork money for their districts - which is unethical. In addition to Beebe's tax proposal, there is another 61-cent tax on a pack of cigarettes from the federal government. A 100 million dollar tax will affect the money of everyday Arkansans, not to mention expand government. Remember the Republicans are supposed to be the party of small government......It does not matter if you approve of smoking or not, this is another assault on your personal liberty, will you be next? ACTION NEEDED:

1) Call your own State Representative, no matter if it is a Democrat or a Republican, and ask him (or her) to oppose this bill: http://www.arkansas.gov/house/

A story about another bill.
Random drug testing of DHS clients proposed
By Rob Moritz Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — Recipients of public assistance through the state Department of Human Services would be required to undergo random drug testing under a bill filed Friday.
Rep. Davy Carter, R-Cabot, said the goal of his House Bill 1281 is not to punish anyone or take away benefits from those deserving. “We know this is controversial,” Carter said. “Are we going to throw people in jail and cut off their kids’ health care services? No. Do we give the person another chance? Maybe. This will be all part of the debate.” The measure is a shell bill, meaning details will be added later. Carter said he plans to meet with DHS officials and representatives from other groups, including the Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, before proposing amendments. “We want to make sure everyone is on the same page,” he said. “I understand that there are some civil liberties we are going to address, that’s why I want everyone at the table talking. Unfortunately, filing this (bill) is what is necessary before we have a debate.”

With unemployment up and people struggling, “we want people to help people that can help themselves,” Carter said. “When teachers can’t pay their health insurance and the state is struggling to pay for Arkids First, when in Lonoke County we have a real meth problem, I think the taxpayer deserves to know what’s going on there.” The freshman lawmaker said he does not personally know anyone who uses illegal drugs and receives state benefits, but he said law enforcement officers have told him that it is not uncommon. Co-sponsors of the bill are fellow freshmen Reps. John Burris, R-Harrison, and Jonathan Dismang, R-Searcy. Julie Munsell, spokeswoman for DHS, said the state currently does not require drug testing. Some clients in the Transitional Employement Assistance Program, however, may received drug testing if they are in a federally funded drug treatment program.
