Arkansas Airport for illegals and some immigration stories

From the Leftist Arkansas Times:
Rumors cropped up this week that solid progress had been made on establishing an Aeromexico flight between Little Rock and Mexico City in 2008. Little Rock National spokesman Philip Launius said that the airport is "not close" to an announcement. However, he said, the rising Latino population here, a new Mexican counsel, cooperation from the Mexican tourism agency and support from airport owners in Mexico are among the positive factors in the process.

Important event in Arkansas

Vic Snyder will be having 2 townhall meetings next Tuesday! This is from my NumbersUSA account, which is a very useful tool in dealing with illegal immigration. I should be able to attend the first meeting, but not the second:

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 9:30-10:30am
Saline County Courthouse
200 North Main Street Benton, AR

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 11am-12pm
Bryant Fire and Rescue Department
312 Royal Lane Bryant, AR

Please note: All meetings notices are provided by NumbersUSA members like you. If you have any questions or comments please contact Rep. Snyder's District Office:
1501 North University Suite 150
Little Rock, AR 72207
(501) 324-5941 (V), (501) 324-6029 (F)

Always be pleasant and polite. You should communicate urgency and conviction - not anger.
We have provided some questions you might want to ask in the talking points section below.
You can find information on the full congressional immigration battle here.
Find your Rep.'s voting record here. Find your Rep.'s immigration report card here.
If someone else asks one of the questions, ask another instead. You don't have to ask all the questions. Just one is enough in many cases. Ask the question in a way that makes sense to you. Weave in your personal stories. Stress how your support for the Congressman is linked to how he or she supports the cause of reform.

Talking point:
I am very concerned about totalization agreements that would grant Social Security benefits to illegal aliens. If any such agreement reaches and clears the White House, will you work to defeat it in Congress?
Talking points
About 200,000 illegal aliens self-deport every year. That number would rise significantly if Congress would pass legislation implementing Attrition Through Enforcement solutions. What will you do to help pass Attrition Through Enforcement legislation?
Would you support legislation to stop granting birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens?
Any legislation that pardons lawbreakers and rewards them with the object of their crimes is an amnesty. In other words, it doesn't matter if illegal aliens are given automatic citizenship or a temporary work card, whether they have to pay a fine or back taxes, whether they have to learn English or "touch back" across the border to change their status. If the end result is they get to stay and work, it is an amnesty. Rather than holding enforcement hostage to amnesty, will you work to simply enforce the laws already on the books?

Some of my questions: Do you think the Arkansas Taxpayers should pay $167 million dollars for illegals so that a handful of corrupt millionare CEO's can make more money?

Do you oppose the Security and Prosperity Plan? Will you support Duncan Hunter's legislation to deny Federal Funds to the superhighway?

What are we doing to reform countries like Mexico so that they won't force their people to come to the US?

Press Release about the Security and Prosperity Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

No Security and Prosperity for the Arkansas Taxpayer

Little Rock, AR – August 20, 2007 – On August 20th and 21st, US President George Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and Mexican President Felipe Calderon will meet in Montebello, Canada for the Security and Prosperity Plan (SPP). The SPP will increase immigration to the US and weaken our borders with Canada and Mexico. This plan is being done without the approval of Congress and more importantly, the American People. KeepArkansasLegal urges the elected officials of Arkansas to oppose the SPP.

On August 13th, several government departments testified before the State Agencies Committee about the cost of illegal immigration. Their testimony showed that the current immigration system in the US cost Arkansas about $170 million a year. The SPP will increase that cost by liberalizing migration. A federal lawsuit against Tyson foods by it’s employees showed that Tyson's practice of hiring illegal immigrants depressed wages 10-30%. The suit further showed that the company violated federal racketeering laws by conspiring with the National Council of La Raza and League of United Latin American Countries not to question the employment applications with a Hispanic surname. Tyson Foods makes about $26 billion according to wikipedia. Eisenhower was right in stating that illegal immigration had created, “a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government." The same can be said about the SPP. Only corrupt businesses like Tyson Foods will benefit from the SSP.

Congressman Duncan Hunter recently added Amendment 630 to HR 3074, which will deny federal funds to the N. American superhighway part of the SPP. HR3074 is now in the US Senate. Arkansas needs to it’s part in forcing Mexico to act like a real country and forcing companies like Tyson Foods to act like American businesses.

Reactions to the Truth and Illegal Immigration crime in Arkansas

Sorry for the delay in post. I've been both ill and having to catch up on loss work from when I attended the Immigration Study. Since everyone knows about the study done, I decided to post the response from our new Democrat Governor.

Beebe: Report On Illegal Immigration Costs Incomplete (It's better than any study he's done!)

Governor Beebe says the state needs more accurate information on how much its agencies are paying for services for illegal immigrants if there is to be an informed discussion on immigration policy. Beebe says a report released to legislators Monday did not break down the costs of services by an immigrant's legal status. (That's because most of the departments are not allowed to ask about legal status) The governor says lumping legal and illegal immigrants together doesn't give the complete picture on the cost of illegal immigrants to the state. He calls the discussion among state legislators about immigration policy healthy but says the state has to work with (do nothing with) the federal government on these issues. Beebe spoke to news reporters after a speech in Little Rock to a labor group.

Government to Step Up Immigration Law Enforcement (from FoxNews)

(At least they're not demanding Amnesty!)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292806,00.html
WASHINGTON — The Bush administration plans to step up immigration enforcement by raising fines on employers who hire undocumented workers, overhauling temporary worker programs and speeding up deployment of border agents, according to a summary of the plans.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez planned to announce broad immigration changes at a news conference Friday. Some of the initiatives are similar to proposals contained in recent immigration legislation, although they are not nearly as sweeping as the bill that failed to pass the Senate. Other measures are already under way.
An outline of the announcement, obtained by The Associated Press from a congressional aide, said the administration plans to expand the list of international gangs whose members are automatically denied admission to the U.S., reduce processing times for immigrant background checks and install by the end of the year an exit system so the departure of foreigners from the country can be recorded at airports and seaports. In addition, employers will face possible criminal sanctions if they don't fire employees unable to clear up problems with their Social Security numbers.
Also, the Homeland Security Department will ask states to voluntarily share their driver's license photos and records with the agency for use in an employment verification system. The sharing is meant to help employers detect fraudulent licenses, according to the summary.
A spokesman for the Homeland Security Department declined to comment because the announcement had not been made. The Commerce Department press office also declined comment. Chertoff alluded to the new enforcement tactics in a speech in Boston on Wednesday, calling to it "tool sharpening."
"We shouldn't have a patchwork of laws. We should be doing a comprehensive federal solution, but we haven't got that thing done," Chertoff said. "What I can tell you is we will certainly use every enforcement tool that we have, and every resource that we have available, to tackle the problem." President Bush suffered a major political defeat when Senate immigration legislation failed to pass this year.
The legislation was opposed by many conservatives who complained that Americans don't trust the government to start new immigration programs because existing immigration laws are not being enforced. The Senate bill would have allowed millions of illegal immigrants to obtain legal status and eventually apply for legal residency. It also would have created a guest worker program and stepped up border security. Some members have kept up efforts to tighten the border. Last month, the Senate added $3 billion to a Homeland Security bill to be used for U.S.-Mexico border security.

Good news from Georgia and illegal alien whining from NW AR

http://www.claremont.org/blogs/blogid.5655/blog_detail.asp

Enforcing Immigration Laws: What a Concept!
Georgia Sheriff Shows the Way
While many in Congress and elsewhere sought to reform our immigration laws in order to assimilate the millions who have come here illegally (while appearing to swallow the bitter pill of tougher border control), some local officials, such as Sheriff Neil Warren of Cobb County, Georgia, have determined that current laws enable them to send home those who continue to violate our laws. As columnist Matt Towery observes:
In essence Warren’s team is doing the one thing that every law enforcement agency in America could and should be doing, taking advantage of the existing laws and programs that could have an immediate impact on illegal immigration throughout America.
Cobb County sheriff’s deputies have been trained by federal immigration officials as to what to look for and how to examine documents in order to determine whether someone arrested and placed in their custody is a legal resident. . . He and his department have started to initiate, on their own, deportation proceedings once a determination is made that an individual in their custody is in the United States illegally.
The drawback to this commendable step is that many other officials have not gotten the training necessary, nor applied for the available federal funds, to deport the thousands of non-law abiding illegal aliens that plague and burden our criminal justice system--not to mention their victims. As ever, doing something about a problem requires effort. May others be inspired by Sheriff Warren's example!

Finance Committee To Hear Siloam Springs' Health Needs
By Scarlet SimsTHE MORNING NEWS

BENTONVILLE -- Siloam Springs residents don't have easy access to needed health services since the Benton County Health Department's satellite office closed in March, said Siloam Springs Mayor M.L. "Moose" Van Poucke."It's a very drastic situation," Van Poucke said. "We're very much aware of the loss. (The clinic) takes care of those less fortunate (illegals) -- they need the support."
The department was renting space from Allen Canning for about $600 per month, but after the company decided it needed the facility, the satellite had no alternative but to close, said Loy Bailey, county health department director. Leasing costs in Siloam Springs run between $7 and $8 per square foot for space suitable for a medical clinic, he said.
The department needs at least 1,600 square feet.
The health department doesn't have the budget to relocate (because of free healthcare to illegals), he said. Only about $600 per month is set aside for lease, Bailey said.
Siloam Springs doesn't own property to bring the satellite office back and doesn't have the budget to fund the department, Van Poucke said. City officials are helping Bailey try to locate a suitable site, but nothing is available for that low of a rent, he said.
Other options to find more money have fallen through. (Tyson Foods, Green Poultry, The Morning News, George Soros?)
Bailey planned to apply for a federal grant to study the need for a health center in western Benton County, but the county couldn't meet the application requirements on such a tight deadline, Grant Coordinator Kathy Bannister said. Bailey decided to pull the application. The department couldn't get funds from the state either, Bailey said.
Today, Bailey will request additional funds from the Benton County Finance Committee.
"We just want to share our needs and then see what kind of support we can get," he said.
The needs are great in the Siloam Springs area, Bailey said.
More than 9 percent of the 10,843 residents in Siloam Springs live in poverty, according to the 1999 U.S. Census. That includes 250 families. About 18 percent of Benton County residents don't have medical insurance, Beck said.
In 2006, the satellite office had 1,034 immunizations, more than some Arkansas counties.
The Women, Infants and Children service helped 6,156 people last year, again more than at least one county in the state, Bailey said.
"I think the numbers kind of ferret out the tremendous need over there," Bailey said.
No numbers were available for the actual number of residents served at the satellite, he said.
Closing the satellite is also affecting other clinics.
St. Francis Clinic of Siloam Springs, a nonprofit agency that treats acute conditions like colds and some long-term conditions like diabetes, saw an influx of people seeking treatment after the county's satellite closed, said Raquel Beck, director.
The satellite offered services for immunization, prenatal care, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, TB surveillance, reproductive health and family planning, but St. Francis isn't equipped to handle those services or the need in the Siloam Springs area, Beck said. The clinic turns away about three people a day, she said.
"We're limited with what we can do," she said. "I think it's very important to our community to find a location for the Benton County health unit to come back."
Needy residents have trouble getting to alternative offices like Bentonville, Van Poucke said.
"They can't afford the medications to start with; they surely can't afford the $15 to $20 to buy fuel," he said, noting Bentonville is about 35 miles away. "It's economics. They can't afford to spend money." (I guess they'll have to go back to Mexico!)
Health Care In Siloam Springs
The Benton County Health Department's satellite office in Siloam Springs provided accessible health care for lower-income families, but the office closed earlier this year because it lacked funding to relocate, said Director Loy Bailey. He plans to address the Benton County Finance Committee at 2:30 p.m. today to ask the county to help bring back health services there.

Breaking the Law for Lawbreakers!

Illegal Alien supporters have hijacked the United States House of Representatives! An attempt to stop more tax money going to illegal immigrants in an agricultural bill (HR3161) was sabotaged by some bizzare procedures and now a computer "glitch" has suddenly appeared!

Boozman: Sad Day for House
Laments Events Which Led to Allowing Illegal Immigrants to Receive Benefits

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today expressed remorse at the events on the House floor late Thursday which led to a walk-out of Republican members after a GOP amendment to deny illegal immigrants benefits in the agriculture appropriations bill was seemingly defeated.

“What happened last night is an indicator as to the extent the House leadership will go to defeat common-sense legislation which a majority of Americans want,” Boozman said. “Last night, a majority of the House of Representatives voted to deny benefits to people in our country illegally. Instead, the leadership did not like that result, and proceeded to produce one more politically appealing to them – namely, allowing benefits to illegal immigrants.”

The controversy surrounded the gaveling of the vote on a Republican Motion to Recommit to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which would prohibit grant and rental housing assistance funding to illegal immigrants. At the time, the vote was 215-213 in favor of the motion, while the chair announced a 214-214 tie – which would result in the motion’s failure.

Minutes later, the chair called the final tally 212-216, which included vote changes by Democrats after the vote had already been gaveled to a close.

Had the Motion to Recommit been allowed to succeed, voting for the evening would have concluded, instead the House voted on final passage of the agriculture bill. As a protest, over 100 House Republicans walked out.

“It is a sad day for the House, and for America, as the Democrat leadership chose to void the vote of other Democrats, and Republicans, who came together in a bipartisan majority to protect the money of American taxpayers from being distributed to illegal aliens.”

Immigration Events for August

There will be several events in August regarding illegal immigration in August:

_________________________________________
8/13 10am
Rep. Woods and Rep. Green will be holding a meeting beginning on August 13th at the Capitol. This will be in the State Agencies Committee, Room 151, at 10am.

The first study meeting (we are hoping for 2 or three meetings this Fall) will focus on the effects of illegal immigration in Arkansas on Education, Employment, and Law Enforcement/Corrections.

We are asking each of the following State Departments to supply us with this information. Testifying will be the Departments of:
Higher Education Pre-K K-12 Department of Corrections Motor Vehicle Department (Under the Dept of Finance) Insurance Department Department of Workforce AFL/CIO and various labor unions

Each of these has been asked to assess to costs to their agencies of illegal immigration.

We are then planning another meeting in September (TBA) that will call in the following State Departments

Department of Human Services
Department of Health
Hospital Association

This second meeting will focus on health care costs and health benefit costs.
_______________________________________
8/20 and 21st
Monday and Tuesday there will be worldwide protest against the North American Union. I would like to get a crowd together at the State Capitol for a press conference and have some guest speakers talk about the destruction of America's identity. I would like to have the press conference at around 9am or so.
______________________________

There is a court case in Alexander, Arkansas involving illegal immigration. A lawyer has sued claiming "racial profiling" because about 20 or so hispanics have been pulled over for too much clutter on their windshield. Nearly 4 times as many whites have been pulled over by a city government which is largely African American. I have tried to call the city and the sherriff of Alexander but have been unsuccessful in getting any more information than the story from The Morning News.
