AR session/Events update 030409

SJR12- the ERA resolution that will open the door for leftist judicial activism was defeated in the Senate Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs 030309. Secure Arkansas helped lobby against the bill since it has already allowed judicial activism in New Mexico and Hawaii. You can track the bill here: www.arkleg.state.ar.us/=SJR12

HCR1011-The states sovereignty resolution was voted down 10 to 8 down party lines in the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs. There were some Republican members not in attendance, so we may be able to lobby and reschedule. Will let everyone know ASAP.

HB1339- the Anti Small States Bill is scheduled for 030509 in the Senate Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs. This bill is expected to fail, but we recommend calling their representatives to lobby against this legislation.

The effort for immigration reform has been delayed due to the political atmosphere at the Capitol. Here is an update about that issue:
HB1093- the full immigration reform bill is scheduled for the Judiciary Committee 030509. It is most likely to fail and be broken up into several bills.

HB1550-TO LIMIT THE VALIDITY PERIOD FOR IDENTIFICATION CARDS ISSUED TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES.- this has been withdrawn for unknown reasons and is on hold.

HB1860-TO LIMIT THE VALIDITY PERIOD FOR DRIVER'S LICENSES AND IDENTIFICATION CARDS ISSUED TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES. was just filed 030309. No schedule yet:

Got this in my email about an event I posted earlier:
Announcing a new Meetup for Central Arkansas Campaign for Liberty (AR 2nd CD)!
What: Arkansas Tea Party!
When: March 14, 2009 5:00 PM
Where: Peabody Hotel Little Rock Arkansas
Meetup Description: As a result of Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC earlier this week, there is now a nationwide movement to hold tea parties at various locations throughout the US in order to protest Washington's economic policies and liberal spending bills! Conservatives, Liberals, and Independents are all involved in this effort! Talk about bipartisan support...this movement is full of bipartisan support! Perhaps the Adminstration and our no good, spend, spend, spend, and spend some more Congress could learn a thing or two from this effort! First, they are going to have to get their heads out of their asses! Perhaps this movement will get their attention! This will be a peaceful rally to unite our voices and express the love that we have for our great nation and the principles it was founded on. We want our politicians to hear loud and clear that we are tired of the bailouts, the wasteful Washington spending and the push towards the socialization of this country! We want less government! We want to decide where our hard earned money goes instead of Washington taking it and using it to buy votes, doling it out to special interest groups and pork barrel projects! We want our constitutional rights preserved and protected, not trampled on!Let's exercise our right to free speech and be a part of history as the peaceful reclamation of our country is underway!
We will be assembling March 14th outside the Peabody Hotel at 5pm. It just so happens that our very own Blanche Lincoln will be kicking off her 2010 campaign with all of Arkansas' Washington representatives and even Joe Biden will be attending.I have had a few questions about what is needed, as of right now we need no money, all we ask is for you to bring yourself and anyone who you can muster. Bring tasteful to the point signs, a clever chant, and an idea of what to say if you are interviewed. Remember we want to be heard not laughed at so keep things simple and to the point. Stay away from tangents and lets stick to the issue: Washington works for ME!Learn more here:
