Acambaro chief to remain jailed on aliens charge BY MARK MINTON 12/28/07
http://www.nwanews.com/adg/News/211942/
FAYETTEVILLE — A judge denied bail Thursday for the Mexican restaurateur at the center of an immigration case that Hispanic leaders denounced as a quest to rid Northwest Arkansas of “undesirables.” U. S. Magistrate Judge James Marschewski ruled that Arturo Reyes Jr. will remain jailed until trial on charges of harboring illegal aliens, while his wife, Silvia Reyes, was released on $ 25, 000 bond. No trial date was set. Before the hearing, members of a newly formed group criticized the government for what they consider selective enforcement. Empowering local police to enforce federal immigration laws was supposed to deter serious criminals, not target Hispanicowned business that hire illegal aliens, Hispanic business owners and community leaders said in a statement released before Thursday’s court hearing.
Activist Jim Miranda, who read the statement, said it was endorsed by about 20 people who met recently to discuss the Dec. 10 raid on Acambaro Mexican restaurants in Washington and Benton counties.

Agents seized more than $ 3 million in property, froze bank accounts and arrested 23 illegal aliens, including four of Acambaro’s operators. Besides Reyes and his wife, the government charged Armando Reyes and Lucila Huaracha with harboring illegal aliens to make profits for their business. The 19 who weren’t charged face deportation. It was the first high-visibility raid since area police were tapped for immigration enforcement under the 287 (g ) provision of federal immigration law. “We will not stand to be singled out for unfair treatment,” Miranda said. The new group complained not only about selective enforcement but agents’ treatment of the Reyes family. Agents “busted in” the door of Arturo Reyes Sr. ’s $ 465, 000 home in Rogers and rifled through his wife’s purse, Miranda told reporters outside the Federal Building. In the fifth-floor courtroom, Marschewski ruled Arturo Reyes Jr., was a risk to flee, partly because his family owns a substantial ranch in Mexico and has relatives living there. But he ruled that Reyes’ wife, Silvia, a mother of five who is pregnant, could be released until trial. The judge said evidence presented Thursday indicated that she was less involved in the business than her husband. Having five children in Northwest Arkansas, all U. S. citizens, also would tie her to the area. He ordered electronic surveillance. About three dozen Reyes family members, along with sup- porters, attended the detention hearing. Arturo Reyes Sr., 69, the family patriarch who founded the chain, sat in the front row. Reyes Sr., a legal U. S. resident who was not charged in the raid, declined to comment after the hearing.

Illegal immigrants "self deport" as woes mount

By Tim Gaynor Mon Dec 24, 3:05 AM ET

Mexican illegal immigrant Lindi sat down with her husband Marco Antonio in the weeks before Christmas to decide when to go back to Mexico. She has spent three years working as a hairdresser in and around Phoenix, but now she figures it is time to go back to her hometown of Aguascalientes in central Mexico. "The situation has got so tough that there don't seem to be many options left for us," Lindi, who asked for her last name not to be used, told Reuters. The couple are among a growing number of illegal immigrants across the United States who are starting to pack their bags and move on as a crackdown on undocumented immigrants widens and the U.S. economy slows, turning a traditional Christmas trek home into a one-way trip. In the past year, U.S. immigration police have stepped up workplace sweeps across the country and teamed up with a growing number of local forces to train officers to enforce immigration laws. Meanwhile, a bill seeking to offer many of the 12 million illegal immigrants a path to legal status was tossed by the U.S. Congress, spurring many state and local authorities to pass their own measures targeting illegal immigrants. The toughening environment has been coupled with a turndown in the U.S. economy, which has tipped the balance toward self deportation for many illegal immigrants left struggling to find work. "It is still just a thought, although we are preparing to leave," said Ernesto Garcia, a carpenter from Caborca in northwest Mexico, who stood in line at the Mexican consulate in Phoenix this week for paperwork that will allow him and his family to resume their lives south of the border.

PACKING THEIR BAGS
There is no tally of the number of illegal immigrants who have already left the United States, many of whom simply head south over the border with their belongings packed into a car during the annual Christmas exodus, or board scheduled flights for other destinations.Mexican consular sources in Phoenix say they are seeing a spike in the number of immigrants applying for Mexican citizenship for their U.S.-born children, which will allow them to enroll in schools in Mexico. They are also seeing a rise in requests for papers enabling families to carry household belongings back to Mexico, free of import duties. Members of the Brazilian community in the U.S. northeast, meanwhile, say they are starting to see an increase in the number of illegal immigrants heading back to their homes in Brazil in recent months. "They are beginning to put in the balance the constant fear of being detained and deported, and many are deciding to leave," said Fausto Mendes da Rocha, executive director of the Brazilian Immigrant Center in Boston. Other returning immigrants cite a slowdown in the U.S. economy as a factor, and the falling value of the U.S. dollar against other currencies, which has eaten into the value of remittances sent to support families at home. Aluisio Carvalho, 66, left a wife and four children behind in Brazil in 2001 when he set off to find work in Boston. Since then, he has managed to pay for the education of his children by working in a restaurant, but is now planning to leave himself in February "Salaries are really low, and living costs are high. We also face too much exploitation at work here, too many demands," he said.

MOVING WITHIN THE UNITED STATES
While some illegal immigrants are simply self deporting, others are moving within the United States to avoid federal immigration raids and pro-enforcement measures passed by a patchwork of state and local authorities. Among them are undocumented immigrants in Marshalltown, Iowa, where Mexicans and Central Americans workers at a Swift & Co meatpacking plant were arrested during coordinated immigration raids across six states a year ago that netted hundreds of employees. Moses Garcia, a U.S. citizen who came from Mexico 18 years ago and knew many of the families affected by the 2006 raid through his church and real estate work, said most of the workers have left to other states, not back to Mexico. "They feel like they are not welcome here," Garcia said. "They go to Minnesota, Atlanta, Nebraska, California." In Arizona, where some specially trained sheriff's deputies already enforce immigration laws and a new state law sanctioning businesses hiring undocumented workers is due to come in to effect January 1, many illegal immigrants are eyeing a move to states they see as less hostile. Among them is day laborer Fernando Gutierrez who trekked illegally into the desert state 18 months ago from Mexico, and is now thinking of joining a cousin working in Oregon in the Pacific northwest. "Everyone lives in fear of the police stopping you for some minor infraction and then asking for your papers," Gutierrez said as he touted for work in the chill morning air at a Phoenix day labor site. "I want to get as far away from here as possible." (Additional reporting by Adriana Garcia in Washington and Andrea Hopkins in Marshalltown; Editing by Eddie Evans)

Christianity and Illegal Immigration

Christianity and Illegal Immigration are two very important issues in the primary elections for President of the United States. Here's a video about how the Bible deals with some of the issues involved with illegal immigration.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saeKs63dxNo

Here's the text for the video:

Hello everyone. This is Kenny with keeparkansaslegal. A few days after the majority of Americans celebrate Christmas, the nation will begin the process of deciding the President of the United States in the form of primary elections. Many Presidential Candidates have portrayed themselves as a President with Christian compassion who will also be tough on illegal immigration. But how does a Christian leader deal with illegal immigration? Ignoring the statements by politicians and the opinion of a mostly anti-Christian media, we must first and foremost see what the Bible says.

Luke 14:13 13But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Luke 10:33-35 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coins[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

Notice the part where the government is to raise taxes to help the poor, of course not! The Bible’s statements to help the poor are directed to individuals to give of themselves, not tax others. Let’s see more of what the Bible says about helping the poor!
John 12:4-8 4But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5"Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." 6He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. " It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."
In the time of Jesus, just as today, there are many people who “help the poor” to benefit themselves and their agendas. We have seen this before from those who demand we pay more into corrupt welfare programs, and anti-Christian schools that continue to fail. Many in the illegal alien agenda claim to help the poor so that they can advance the ideas of multiculturalism, “Aztlan”, socialist equality, and of course “the children”. To criticize their agenda is portrayed as being “mean” to hispanics in poverty. But the Bible shows that this false compassion can actually hurt the poor!
Proverbs 17:23 A wicked man accepts a bribe in secret to pervert the course of justice.
Daniel 6:4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.
Matthew 23:1-4 1Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
Luke 2:46 Jesus replied, "And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.
The Mexican Government is well known for its corruption and negligence toward its people. Of course companies like Tyson Foods exploit illegals for the love of money. Yet we never hear any demand from many Christian Groups that the illegal exploiters pay for housing, healthcare, education, and other necessities. That burden has been put upon the U.S. taxpayer while the corrupt are rewarded. Just as in the time of Jesus, those in power still use this false compassion that ends up hurting others.
Mike Huckabee negotiated a 1.2 million dollar Mexican consulate in Little Rock, rewarding a regime that has neglected thousands of its citizens to death! The result is more illegal immigration in Arkansas, along with criminal organizations like the Acambaro Restaurant chain. Rudy Guliani protected the sanctuary city policy in NY that allows the next 9/11 terrorist to live in his city w/out fear of deportation. Terrorist, along with illegals can thrive in sanctuary cities. McCain’s comprehensive immigration bill would have blocked any chance of deportation for millions of illegals. Although McCain maybe tough on the war on terror abroad, his plan would make a problem that kills 25 Americans a day even worse!
It’s good to have a candidate who stands for his faith against the secular bigots in the Mainstream Media. But what matters the most is not what a candidate says they will do, or who endorses them, or what church they go to, what matters the most is what they did when they were in charge. Go to NumbersUSA.com where you can see what these Presidential Candidates did for both parties. Compare their actions with what the Bible teaches.

More Acambaro Documents Unsealed
By Ron Wood THE MORNING NEWS

FAYETTEVILLE -- Details about the government's case against the owners and operators of Acambaro Mexican restaurants continue to trickle in as two more cases have been unsealed. The latest allegations are that employees worked up to 60 hours a week and were not paid time and a half as required. The overtime was paid in cash at the employee's normal pay rate, according to the complaint against Armando Reyes, 33. The complaint against Lucila Huracha, 33, alleges she hired illegal immigrants to work at the businesses and handled employee eligibility forms. The complaint says Huracha assisted employees in getting stolen, borrowed or fictitious identification documents.

Armando Reyes and Huracha were arrested last week along with Arturo Reyes Jr., 35, and Silvia Reyes, 36, in raids on the restaurant chain and a distribution company operated by the Reyes family. All are in the country illegally, according to police. Court documents say the unlawful activity included identity theft, possession and use of counterfeit identity documents, employment eligibility verification fraud and money laundering. The cases were electronically unsealed late Friday evening. Armando Reyes is the younger brother of Arturo Reyes and helps manage the businesses, according to the government. They're all charged with harboring illegal immigrants. The government says the Reyes clan used illegal immigrants as the primary source off their work force and paid them off the books, allowing the business to make a profit. All four are being held on detainers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and cannot bond out of jail.

Members of the Northwest Arkansas Immigration Criminal Apprehension Task Force raided Acambaro restaurants at 215 S. Eighth St. in Rogers, at 121 N. Thompson St. in Springdale, at 301 S. Walton Blvd. in Bentonville and at 406 N. Bloomington in Lowell Dec. 10. Federal officials have requested the forfeiture of 11 properties worth an estimated $3.6 million owned by a member or members of the Reyes family in Benton and Washington counties.

This organization is even too illegal for the pro-illegals! Maybe Huckabee can negotiate a company to build a 1.2 million dollar facility for the Latin Community Organization of Malvern! Maybe he can cyphon several thousand dollars in tax money to the organization! Of course the owners of the Acambaro Restaurant Chain could have built a Mexican Consulate with the millions they made off of crime thanks to the former and current Governors of Arkansas.

Informants, Arrested Employees Led To Immigration Raid
By Ron Wood THE MORNING NEWS

FAYETTEVILLE -- Information from confidential informants and a series of arrests involving employees of Acambaro led federal officials to Arturo and Silvia Reyes, according to affidavits unsealed Friday. The husband and wife operate the Acambaro restaurant chain, Garibaldi's Mexican Restaurant and Garcia's Distributor, according to federal officials. They're charged with harboring illegal immigrants for financial gain and knowingly hiring them to work at the restaurants and food distribution company. Documents further indicate the alleged unlawful activity included identity theft, possession and use of counterfeit identity documents, employment eligibility verification fraud and money laundering. The affidavits say illegal immigrants were the primary source of employees for the company. Some had worked at the restaurant as long as seven years. They were paid "off the books," often in cash. Both Arturo and Silvia Reyes, who is pregnant, are in the country illegally, according to immigration officials. Arturo and Sylvia Reyes co-managed the businesses and Silvia Reyes kept the books, according to affidavits by Charles Motsinger, a Springdale police detective assigned to an immigration and customs enforcement task force.

The investigation began in September 2006 after a confidential informant told authorities Arturo Reyes, 35, was harboring and employing illegal immigrants at his business. Immigration officials and police then noticed a number of the illegal immigrants they were arresting turned out to be Acambaro employees. They started interviewing the arrested Acambaro employees in March and using information gained about hiring and pay practices to make a case against Arturo and Silvia Reyes, 36. They learned employees were either never asked to provide documentation or fake documents were used. Investigation of financial records indicated the Reyes were dealing in large sums of cash, which investigators thought was unusual because most restaurant patrons were paying with debit cards, according to the informants. Using illegal immigrants for their primary labor source and paying them off the books allowed the company to turn a profit, officials said. Arturo and Silvia Reyes, of Rogers, along with Lucila Huaracha, 33, of Rogers, and Armando Reyes, 33, of Lowell were arrested Monday in a raid by federal and local immigration enforcement. Huaracha and Armando Reyes are also in the country illegally, according to immigration officials.

Huaracha supervised workers she knew were illegal immigrants and she knew money she deposited for the restaurant didn't come from legal transactions, while Armando Reyes hired or helped hire illegal immigrants to work at the restaurants, according to the federal charges against them. All are set for probable cause hearings next Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville. All four are being held in local jails on detainers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and cannot bond out of jail. Federal officials have also requested the forfeiture of 11 properties owned by the Reyes family in Benton and Washington counties. Nineteen other people suspected of being illegal immigrants were arrested during the raids, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Their identities have not been released.
Nice to see the US government doing it's job. Unfortunately, this took over a year just for the investigation! We need to allow our local law enforcement officers to deal with the problem of illegal immigration so that doesn't take years to stop companies like the Acambaro Restaurant Chain.

Debate and discussion

I watched the spanish debate on Univision along with some of the analysis in English. Overall, it looked like the guy who won the most was immigration reformer by Duncan Hunter getting the loudest applause from the audience. According to the political experts like Dick Morris and others, those who are the loudest against illegal immigration should have been booed off the stage. I'm also glad to see that most of the candidates did not pander as much to illegal immigration and that the world was able to see that hispanics do care about things other than immigration. I am not suprised that the cowards at Univision made no effort to talk about abortion or Christian Rights. They along with the Hispanic "civil rights groups" do everything in their power to make sure politicans believe they can only get the hispanic vote by jumping through the hoops of their agenda. Here's the agenda from last night along with some comments:

Huckabee: Immigrants' friend

(Titled "Liberal Star" in the paper)
Ernest Dumas http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer
12/4/2007
Mike Huckabee's star may fall as precipitously as it rose in the presidential stakes, but it is time to ask if something mysterious but important is happening in the electorate or if his rise is only evidence of a field of fatally vulnerable candidates. In the six months between the beginning of the debates and the Iowa caucuses, the only Republican candidate who has not fallen in the estimation of the polls is the one who is inarguably the most liberal and the one who sounds most like a Democrat. Huckabee would dispute that description but it comports with his record in Arkansas and even with his public utterances when he is forced to defend that record and in thoughtful moments far away from the madding crowds of Iowa and South Carolina Republicans. A month ahead of the caucuses Huckabee is leading the field in Iowa, and he has risen sharply in national polls so that he competes with the incredibly shrinking big four, which has to be a reflection of his glib, witty and saccharine performance in all the debates. It has liberal pundits across the country gushing about what a generous, reasonable and straight-shooting person he is. Those are not adjectives that many in his own party in Arkansas would have applied to the governor even a year ago. The Republican leader of the state Senate once called on him to be kinder in his public remarks about fellow Republicans.

If Republicans are turning to the moderate in a field of sullen men bent on seeing who can be the most reactionary, it is an unusual phenomenon. Republicans suspected they were nominating a liberal in 1952 when they picked Dwight Eisenhower over Mr. Conservative, Robert A. Taft, in the most contentious convention of modern times, but they did so because they thought he could beat the Democrats and that the sainted Taft, who wanted to roll back Social Security and the whole New Deal, couldn't. But winnability isn't Huckabee's secret. The same polls showing him gaining say that Republicans think he would be less likely than others to win. On the other hand, maybe the conservatives who see him as the truest ideologue just do not know him. His standard stump talk, which you can catch often on C-SPAN, does carry a litany of conservative dogmatisms: lower taxes, smaller government, abortion, gay marriage, and even tough immigration controls. Huckabee's immigration stance is at once the most emblematic of his liberal impulses and politically the most paradoxical because immigration is the dominant GOP issue. The campaign of Sen. John McCain, the early front-runner, imploded over his steadfast support of the administration's humane immigration bill, but Huckabee makes McCain look like a nativist. Romney tried to nail Huckabee in the last debate for passing a law giving children of illegal immigrants state-paid college scholarships and in-state tuition rates. Huckabee defended it eloquently, pointing out first that it did not become law — the House of Representatives passed it easily but Republicans blocked it in the Senate — and that he wanted to live in a country that did not punish children for the sins of their parents. (He also said the youngsters would have to have applied for citizenship to get a scholarship, which was not true. The bill said youngsters would have to give the college a statement that they intended to seek legal status some day.)

That bill was not an isolated instance. The highlight of his last two years in office was his running war with Republican lawmakers and the “Shiite wing” of his party — his words — over what he called their bigotry and fearmongering over immigration. He bitterly fought (with Democratic help) a Republican bill restricting government services to U.S. citizens, calling it race baiting and demagoguery, and when the bill failed he condemned a plan to put the same proposal on the ballot and doubted the “Christian values” of the sponsor. “What this has done is inflamed a whole lot of people's emotions, making them think we've got to rush in and pass some laws to stop some terrible thing going on that isn't going on,” he said. But it was going on. At Huckabee's behest, the state became one of only seven states that used Medicaid money to cover prenatal care for immigrant women because Hispanic women had an unusually high prenatal birth-defect risk. Over the objections of conservative nativists he worked to get a Mexican consulate in Little Rock to help immigrants with labor problems and getting papers. He condemned federal agents for raiding an Arkadelphia plant and instantly deporting Mexican workers and splitting their families. When a key administration official sent an email with some derogatory doggerel about Hispanic immigrants Huckabee dumped him with the admonition “racial stereotyping by state leaders is simply not funny and must be consequenced.”

In a remarkable talk to the Political Animals Club he said God had given America “a second chance” to do the right thing by treating Hispanics better than it had treated blacks for much of its history. “One of our greatest challenges is making sure we don't commit the same mistakes with our growing Hispanic population that we did with African-Americans 150 years ago and beyond,” he said. “I feel the Lord, frankly, has given us a second chance to do better than we did before. I hope we will do that.” Immigration is supposed to be the wedge issue for Republicans next year. If that's so, let's hope that Mike Huckabee is their man.

This is from the Arkansas Times, an anti-American fish wrap in Little Rock . As you can see, Ernest Dumas is a secular bigot who thinks those in the Republican Party who oppose illegal immigration are the same who set off car bombs and murder families. Since he writes for a leftist paper, perhaps Ernest think the Shiites are Freedom Fighters. The only reason I posted this lying pile of crap’s column is to show immigration reform activist that the left is proud of Huckabee’s immigration record.

There are several mistakes/lies made by Ernest. Conservative activist blocked HB1525, the bill that would have given in-state tuition for illegals. We had to because Huck would have signed it! Huckabee did help block SB206, the bill that would have required proof of citizenship for Government Services, and he did attack the Christianity the sponsor of SB206 Jim Holt. The Mexican consulate deal wasn’t done over any objections because it was done behind the backs of the people of Arkansas . The consulate doesn’t help immigrants, it gives matricular cards to illegals. Federal agents did not split families in Arkadelphia, the families lied when asked if they had children. Of course the illegals realized that it’s better to abandon your children in the greatest nation on earth than to take your children back to a third world dictatorship that starves it’s people to death. That third world dictatorship now has a consulate in Little Rock

Lincoln supports college aid for children of illegal immigrants;
Huckabee no longer sure
By
Jason Wiest

LITTLE ROCK -- Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., voiced support for providing some children of illegal immigrants with college aid Monday, a day after Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee said he was not sure he would support such a program at the federal level. When Huckabee was Arkansas governor, he supported legislation in 2005 that would have granted in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. The measure, an early version of which also would have made undocumented immigrants eligible for state scholarships, passed the state House but fell short in the Senate.

Huckabee, who is surging in polls in advance of Iowa's first-in-the-nation Jan. 3 political caucuses and has come fire from GOP opponents because of his stance on immigration, on Sunday was noncommittal on federal legislation that would make the children of illegal immigrants eligible for federal student aid such as Pell grants and subsidized federal student loans. "I'm not sure I would support that. It was a different program in Arkansas," he said of the legislation, now stuck in the Senate, in an appearance on ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos." A spokeswoman for Huckabee said Monday the former governor was not flip-flopping on the issue. "He's not wavering on it, he's just not certain at this point if he would support it at the federal level," press secretary Alice Stewart said. Lincoln said Monday she still thinks such a program is a good idea. "They've been in our school systems; we've made a huge investment," Lincoln said. "I think it's really important to make sure that we continue that investment (for students who do well) in a way that both encourages their legality and the hopes of them becoming a citizen because they are the ones who are going to contribute the most."

Lincoln, who supported the so-called DREAM ACT to help the children of illegal immigrants enter college, said the children did not come into the country on their own accord, a point Huckabee made during last week's GOP presidential debate and again during his television appearance Sunday. "You don't punish a child because a parent committed a crime, or committed a sin, you just don't do it," he said. "We had kids (in Arkansas) who had been in our schools, by law. And to simply shut them out of any additional educational advancement, to me, seemed not only in their worst interest, but ours, as well as the state's." But some Arkansas Republicans say such programs would put the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of Arkansas citizens. "What about the children of Arkansans who are citizens?," said Rep. Jon Woods, R-Springdale, who has helped sponsor legislative hearings on illegal immigration in the state. "We have thousands and thousands who are denied scholarships annually, and they're citizens."

What is the difference between the DREAM ACT and HB1525 which was the bill that would have given in-state tuition for illegals? Why do we need to reward the children of criminals? Do we give in-state tuition to the children of shoplifters? What about the rising tuition rates of students overall? This issue has been pretty much buried by the mainstream press. Sean Hannity recently questioned Huckabee about HB1525, but didn't follow up when Huckabee gave the children excuse. I was there when HB1525 was nearly passed by the Arkansas Congress. It was conservative activist like myself who stopped HB1525 from reaching Governor Huckabee's desk.. Here's the story about HB1525:

NYT: An Undocumented Newspaper

Posted 11/28/2007 ETUpdated 11/29/2007 ET

Last week, in an article titled "Walking a Tightrope on Immigration," The New York Times made the fact-defying claim that the illegal immigration issue poses a risk for Republicans who appeal to voters "angry" about illegal immigration. (This is as opposed to voters "angry" that they spent good money buying a copy of The New York Times.)In support of this assertion, the Times was required not only to ignore the stunning defeat of this year's amnesty bill, but also to proffer provably absurd evidence. I dearly hope Democratic politicians continue to look to the Times as an accurate barometer of voter sentiment. In addition to secret polls showing that "the majority of Americans" support "a path to citizenship for immigrants here illegally," the Times cited election results from 1994 and 2006 that directly contradict this thesis. First, the Times raised former California Gov. Pete Wilson's "precipitous slide" in the polls after he supported Proposition 187 in 1994, which denied most taxpayer-supported services to illegal immigrants.

The problem with this example is that Proposition 187 was wildly popular with California voters.Times reporter Michael Luo seems to be referring to the Times' own prediction of catastrophe for Proposition 187 -- not actual election results. One week before Californians voted on Proposition 187 in 1994, B. Drummond Ayres Jr. reported in the Times that there had been "a sharp falloff in support for the proposition." He said Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans and African-American ministers were coming out strongly against Proposition 187 and that "this outcry, along with the increasing opposition being voiced by liberals, civil libertarians and assorted national political figures" was having an effect. And then Californians voted. Proposition 187 passed in a landslide with a nearly 20-point margin -- a larger margin than Wilson got, incidentally. It was supported by two-thirds of white voters, half of black and Asian voters, and even one-third of Hispanic voters. It passed in every area of California, except San Francisco, a city where intoxicated gay men dressed as nuns performing sex acts on city streets is not considered unusual. In heavily Latino Los Angeles County, Proposition 187 passed with a 12-point margin.I'm no campaign consultant, but I think Wilson's support for an off-the-charts popular initiative probably didn't hurt him.In fact, here on planet Earth, about the safest thing a California politician could do would be to wildly, vocally support Proposition 187. But in New York Times-speak, politicians are walking a dangerous "tightrope" if they dare to defy a slight majority of San Francisco voters! The initiative went to Carter-appointed U.S. District Court Judge Mariana Pfaelzer, who issued a permanent injunction and then, in a series of decisions, found the initiative unconstitutional. Her rulings were still on appeal when Democrat Gray Davis became governor and dropped the appeals. Everyone remembers how popular Gray Davis was! (First governor in California history to be recalled.)The crown jewel of the Times' pathetic attempt to marshal evidence for its thesis that Americans want more, not fewer, illegal aliens choking our roads, schools and hospitals also included this gem: "J.D. Hayworth, a hard-line incumbent Republican representative in Arizona, lost his race in 2006, as did Randy Graf, a member of the border-enforcing Minuteman group, who also ran in Arizona.

"How many times do we have to disprove this canard? As with Hillary's position on driver's licenses for illegals -- and B. Hussein Obama's entire campaign -- the Hayworth-Graf example works better when no follow-up questions are allowed. For example:Q: Did Hayworth's and Graf's opponents campaign against them on illegal immigration?A: No.Q: Were there any other issues on the ballot that year that might tell us if it was Hayworth's and Graf's positions on illegals that led to their defeats?A: Si! Oops, I mean, yes -- why, yes there were! The very election that the Times cites as proof that anti-illegal sentiment is a loser at the ballot box also included four measures that passed overwhelmingly: (1) a measure to deny bail to illegal aliens, (2) a measure that would bar illegals from being awarded punitive damages, (3) a measure that would prohibit illegals from receiving state subsidies for education or child care, and (4) a measure to declare English the state's official language.Whatever Arizona voters didn't like about Hayworth and Graf, it wasn't that they were too tough on illegals. My theory is that Hayworth and Graf lost because the multitudes of Times reporters losing their jobs due to the Newspaper of Record's plummeting circulation have recently moved to Hayworth's and Graf's districts. (This is what's known as a "brain drain" in those districts.) My theory -- like the Times' theory -- is supported by no evidence. But unlike the Times' theory, mine is not specifically disproved by other evidence such as common sense, an everyday observation of my fellow man, and also those four anti-illegal immigrant measures passing in landslides in the very same election.

FoxNews recently ran a story claiming that illegal immigration was the new "3rd rail" of politics. We must never forget that a goal right now for pro-illegal immigration groups is to do nothing. Governor Beebe is currently using this strategy by stating he will not call a special session to fix the illegal immigration problem growing in Arkansas.

Illegal alien family values

The NWA Times spends a lot of print trying to claim that out-of wedlock children from illegals are a good thing and that it's America's responsibility. I therefore posted a link to the story onto freerepublic.com. There are 2 sections buried in the story that talk about the true impact of this effect of illegal immigration.

NY governor drops immigrant driver's license plan(Blue States don't like illegal immigration either)

http://www.reuters.com/article/
Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:00pm EST
By Andy Sullivan
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer on Wednesday dropped a controversial plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants in his state because of overwhelming opposition to the proposal."I've concluded that New York state cannot conduct this program on its own," Spitzer, a Democrat, said at a Capitol Hill news conference. "It does not take a stethoscope to hear the pulse of New Yorkers on this topic."Spitzer's plan had sparked a national debate over the extension of certain privileges to illegal immigrants and haunted Democratic presidential front-runner New York Sen. Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail. Clinton initially said the idea "makes a lot of sense" but then equivocated (flip-flopped)and left her position vague during an October 30 Democratic debate in Philadelphia, prompting her Democratic and Republican rivals to accuse her of engaging in political double-talk.

After Spitzer's decision, her campaign issued a statement from Clinton saying she supported his move and made it clear she opposed granting licenses to illegal immigrants. (which is it?)"As president, I will not support drivers' licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system," (I'll just give them amnesty so they can get licenses) Clinton said. Spitzer said he had come to believe that the proposal eventually would be blocked either by legal challenges or by the New York legislature. He said he still believed his plan would be the best way to secure the roads in a state with an estimated 1 million illegal immigrants, many of whom drive without licenses or insurance. (Deporting illegals will secure the roads)

He also criticized the federal government for failing to resolve the problem and said divisive political rhetoric had won out over efforts to reach a practical solution. (amnesty)"The federal government has lost control of its borders, has allowed millions of undocumented immigrants to enter our country and now has no solution to deal with it," Spitzer said at the news conference, where he was joined by Democratic lawmakers from the state. Efforts at a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws (amnesty) collapsed in the U.S. Congress amid a bitter debate on the future of an estimated 12 million immigrants (illegals) in the United States, many of whom are Hispanic.(we don't care about their race) Republican presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, and Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor, said Spitzer's plan would have made it more difficult for the federal government to enforce immigration laws. "It took long enough to convince him and other open-border Democrats like Senator Clinton that driver's licenses for illegal immigrants was exactly the wrong approach to enforcement, but at least Governor Spitzer finally listened to the American people and common sense," Romney said. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose name has been raised as a possible independent presidential candidate, praised Spitzer for attempting to deal with the problem and criticized Washington's inaction. (this liberal may steal votes from the democrat candidate!)

This was most likely to protect Hillary Clinton for the Democrat Debate tonight. I usually don't watch the Dem debates since all of the candidates are for amnesty or amnesty lite, but this debate might be interesting if the Clinton Campaign hasn't rigged it!

Perhaps Spitzer should have issued the licenses in secret behind the backs of the citizens like the building of the Mexican Consulate in Arkansas. He could create an illegals license center at a New York State Rehab center and have mobile driver's license distributors go around the state. Afterwards, he have secret building project to create a center where illegals can get the licenses and syphon a few thousand tax dollars toward the illegals license center. Then all he has to do is make sure that media outlets give him more airtime than Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo combined and only ask him about his Christian beliefs. Remind you of anybody?

The time is now!

On Monday, radio host Dave Elswick urged citizens to call Mike Beebe and demand a special session to deal with the issue of illegal immigration. I was able to call the show and mention the Arkansas Taxpayer Citizen's Act (HB2779) that had been introduced in the 2007 session by Rep Jon Woods but had died in committee. I also found another immigration reform bill by Woods that required proof of citizenship before getting state benefits (HB2781). This is similar to the legendary SB206 bill that was trashed by Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee. I want to have the links to these bills up on the web so that citizens can see there are solutions to illegal immigration in Arkansas already created. I would urge all citizens to call Mike Beebe's office and demand that he hold a special session so that the state legistlature can vote on HB2781 and HB2779. Although these bills would not completely solve illegal immigration, they are a great start!

Suit focuses on Tyson relationship with advocacy group

BY MICHELLE BRADFORD
Posted on Monday, November 5, 2007

http://www.nwanews.com/adg/News/206766/

The plaintiffs in a lawsuit accusing Tyson Foods Inc. of hiring illegal aliens to work at poultry plants are focusing on the meat producer’s relationship with the League of Latin American Citizens. (pro-illegal group) The class-action suit in U. S. District Court in Eastern Tennessee claims Springdale-based Tyson Foods knowingly hired illegal aliens to work for wages below what American workers would take.(what's happening everywhere) It was filed in April 2002 on behalf of former Tyson workers in several states, not including Arkansas. Trial is set for March 3. (5 years just to start Trial?)

The plaintiffs in Trollinger v. Tyson are chicken plant workers who said they were harmed by a scheme by Tyson’s top management to depress wages, court documents state. “We believe Tyson has used its relationship with LULAC to help carry out a ‘willful blindness’ policy of hiring illegal workers,” said the plaintiffs ’ attorney, Howard W. Foster of Chicago. “Tyson is very close with LULAC, especially in Springdale, and we’re alleging that the groups have agreed not to investigate workers who are suspected illegal aliens.” Last week, the former director of the Arkansas chapter of the League of Latin American Citizens filed a motion to avoid giving a deposition in the case. In October, LULAC’s Housing Commission fought subpoenas seeking evidence in the case.

Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said the company continues to deny claims in the suit and will file a motion for summary judgment mid-month. “We have a zero-tolerance policy for hiring people who are not authorized to work in the United States,” Mickelson said. “We value our relationships with various advocacy groups, including those representing the Hispanic community. Claims that those relationships are improper are not only false, but they are absurd.”

An amended complaint filed in 2005 added the allegation that Tyson used its relationship with LULAC to “facilitate the hiring of illegal aliens.” Foster wouldn’t elaborate beyond what is in the complaint. Charles Cervantes, director of the Arkansas chapter of LULAC, said the league’s partnership with Tyson is geared at Hispanic advocacy efforts, such as curbing poverty and improving education. “We would never tell Tyson or any of our corporate sponsors to hire undocumented workers,” Cervantes said. (It's the other way around)“Absolutely not. Nor would we turn our heads to that. Besides, LULAC doesn’t tell its sponsors how to operate. That’s not our format.” Tyson is one of many corporations across the country, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., with which LULAC has “corporate sponsorships,” he said.

LULAC is not a defendant in the suit. The plaintiffs, however, have been gathering third-party evidence from the nonprofit league, including taking a deposition in August of LULAC national executive director Brent Wilkes, court records show. Foster said the suit is filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Practices Act, alleging Tyson committed wrongdoing by working with other groups or organizations.

It’s one of the first suits to allege “illegal immigrant hiring scheme” under the RICO law, he said. Last week, R. Shawn McGrew, former Arkansas LULAC executive director, filed a motion in U. S. District Court in Fayetteville to quash a subpoena to give a deposition in the case. McGrew couldn’t be reached and his attorney, Ray Niblock of Fayetteville, didn’t return calls. The motion states that the plaintiffs want to ask Mc-Grew about whether he lobbied against Arkansas anti-immigration legislation, in particular, Act 907 of 2005, which authorized the State Police to designated officers to enforce federal immigration law.

Last month, 19 officers in Washington and Benton counties began working under the supervision of U. S. Immigration Customs Enforcement under what’s known as the 287 (g ) program. Cervantes said LULAC opposes local police enforcing federal immigration law because it creates opportunities for racial profiling and can violate the rights of people who can’t immediately produce identification when asked by police. LULAC can exercise its First Amendment right to express its views on pending legislation when it pleases, Cervantes said. “If Shawn [McGrew ] went and lobbied against 287 (g ), that’s OK,” said Cervantes, who succeeded McGrew as state director in 2006. “That’s his American right.” Foster said LULAC’s National Housing Commission fought a subpoena last month but has since agreed to turn over documents. He wouldn’t say what the documents are.

The Housing Commission helps low- to moderate-income Hispanics with housing needs and issues, according to its Web site. Foster said other evidence in the suit includes depositions with and computer hard-drive evidence from defendants, who include John Tyson, chairman of the Tyson board of directors; Archie Schaffer III, a senior vice president; and Richard Bond, chief executive officer.

Defendants in the suit are not the same former Tyson bosses who were indicted in 2001 in U. S. District Court in Tennessee on charges of conspiring to smuggle illegal aliens for work. (another corruption story!) A jury acquitted those three defendants in 2003. “Those were mid-level managers,” Foster said. “These defendants are top executives.” Mickelson said the civil suit is largely based on claims made in the failed 2001 federal indictments.

Here's a story from about a year ago that shows even more of how Huckabee paved the way for the Mexican Consulate:
Mexican consulate finds temporary quarters at state agency
Thursday, Oct 19, 2006 By James Jefferson
Arkansas News Bureau www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2006/10/19/

LITTLE ROCK - Mexican consulate officials are preparing to leave their $1-a-year space in a state office building for other temporary quarters before occupying the consulate's permanent building in a former ice cream parlor, which may be christened by Mexican President Vicente Fox."We're preparing for a possible grand opening next month, really contingent upon President Fox's schedule. He's indicated that he'd like to come to Arkansas for the opening of the final consulate under his administration," said Robert Trevino, a former aide to Gov. Mike Hukabee, who now heads Arkansas Rehabilitative Services, where Mexican consular officials occupy space and use a phone. The consulate's permanent home will be in a former Baskin Robbins store across from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus. (a lie)However, the move, expected by the end of the month, hasn't soothed the ruffled feathers of some lawmakers angry that Huckabee's administration made the deal to house the consular officials in a state agency in the first place without notifying the Legislature.Rep. Bob Mathis, D-Hot Springs, who objected that lawmakers were informed only after the deal was struck in July, said he considered requesting an attorney general's opinion on the legality of it, but abandoned the idea because of time constraints."The whole thing stinks, but there's really not a whole lot we can do about it," Mathis said. "By the time they turn around with it, they'll probably be gone."He said Trevino stepped out of line to help the Mexican consulate because Trevino previously headed the Arkansas chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens - LULAC - and was on the governor's payroll handling dealings with the Hispanic community.

In a statement, Huckabee said the benefits from having a Mexican consulate in Arkansas would go far beyond any state assistance in helping get the office off the ground. The consulate will provide Arkansas businesses with access to Mexico and opportunities to expand their markets (so a company has to have a consulate of country in it's state before it can access to that country?), and will help further ensure that immigrants from Mexico are legal and better able to secure legal documentation (matricular cards for illegals) ,the governor said."At the same time, the office will open up opportunities for Mexican investors to invest money with Arkansas partners, which will help create jobs in the state," Huckabee said.Trevino said the deal resulted from a request from Mexican officials, which Huckabee gladly agreed to, to provide assistance to advance personnel in town to prepare for the opening of the consulate."He understood the challenges they faced and that we wanted to be a friendly host. Nothing specific was asked for but he said he (would help)," Trevino said. "We had some office space available in my agency ... that we weren't going to use until November. We consulted with Arkansas Building Authority. They advised us we would need to have a legal agreement, a facility use agreement with consulate officials."The agreement, which called for a $1 annual payment, was signed July 7. Mexican consulate official Jorge Campos referred questions Wednesday to Andres Chao, the consul for Arkansas, who did not return calls seeking comment.

Here are some interesting statistics about Mexico and why we need to reform this regime, not give it consulates in America:

-In Mexico City, over 80% of crimes go unreported because of the inept and corrupt police.

-Communist Revolts have festered in the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca

-Monopoly Tycoon Carlos Slim is now the richest man in the world after controlling 90% of Mexico's telephone lines. Not one monopoly has been broken up in Mexico.

-$2.3 billion goes to bribing officials, with the poorest Mexicans paying 14% of their income in bribes

-More Americans are killed by illegal immigrants from Mexico than by the sponsoring of terrorism by Iran.

Congratulations to the citizens in Oklahoma! Their efforts to pass immigration reform are now in effect after the pro-illegal crowd attempted to override their will with a federal lawsuit:

Arkansas Friendship (illegal immigration) Coalition.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2007
Rev. Steve Copley – 501-626-9220
Archie Schaffer – 479-263-9889
Randy Wilbourn – 501-905-8148
Business and Religious Leaders Create Alliance to Advocate for Immigrants (SPRINGDALE and LITTLE ROCK) - Church, civic and business leaders announced Monday the formation of the Arkansas Friendship Coalition, a statewide advocacy group that will oppose punitive state and municipal laws targeting immigrants in Arkansas. This morning, Arkansas Friendship Coalition Chairman Steve Copley and Archie Schaffer, senior vice president for external affairs at Tyson Foods, held the group’s first news conference at the Springdale Chamber of Commerce. Monday afternoon, Copley and Randy Wilbourn, senior vice president for corporate communications at Alltel, led a second news conference at the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce. A statement issued by the group said: “We are a nation of immigrants. (citizens and legal immigrants) The very foundations of our country were built on the hopes, dreams and aspirations of immigrants (no, it was God, a free middle class, and the Constitution); hopes and dreams of a land of opportunity that would provide a better life for their families. Those same aspirations today imbue (weird words make us sound better) the more than 100,000 immigrants who have come to call Arkansas home.” (like the ones who smuggle Meth into NW Arkansas!) The coalition’s leadership said they have come together to encourage a reasonable and respectful approach to the immigration debate in Arkansas. Their plans include lobbying elected officials, speaking to civic and community groups and other advocacy strategies. (lawsuits and cry racism!) The Arkansas Friendship Coalition maintains that immigration is a federal issue and that state and local money should not be wasted to fix a problem that is ultimately a responsibility of the federal government. Then illegals don't need any state funded services
Page 2 – Arkansas Friendship Coalition
"It is critically important to American business that Comprehensive Immigration Reform (Amnesty Lite) be passed by Congress, but this is a problem that can only be fixed at that level,” said Schaffer. “State and local governments should not be involving themselves in issues that only Congress can really address." Wilbourn of Alltel said, “America’s immigrants have always been and will remain an integral part of our community and our future. Without a fair and balanced approach to dealing with immigration in this country, we will continue to hurt our society and impede our economic opportunity.” Business leaders sited a recent study by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation (A group that funded Amnesty Marches in Arkansas) that reports the following:
• Immigrants added $3 billion to the Arkansas economy in 2004. (What about illegals)
• Arkansas’ immigrant community used $237 million in state services (mostly educational and health services) in 2004 but paid $257 million in taxes resulting in a surplus to the state budget of almost $20 million. Does not include incaration, tax rebates, Federal services that could have gone to Arkansas Citizens and of course does not seperate legal immigrants from illegal aliens)
• If all immigrants left the state tomorrow, Arkansas’ manufacturing output would drop by $1.4 billion and factories would close across Arkansas due to an acute labor shortage (Tyson Foods alone made over 1 billion in profit for 2006. They have spent $500,000 just on Federal lobbying for the first half of 2007 alone!)
• Immigrant spending has created 23,100 jobs that are held primarily by Arkansans born in the United States. (US citizens doing the jobs illegals stole would be spending more)
• Without its immigrant community, Central Arkansas alone would lose $638 million in business revenues, 5,000 jobs and $143 million in payroll. An even greater impact would occur in Northwest Arkansas. (What about just illegals?)
Copley invited Arkansans to join the coalition. “We ask others to join our efforts to speak up for the growing immigrant community, to share in their hopes and dreams of a better life, which is the American dream.” More information can be found at the coalition’s Web site, http://www.arfriendshipcoalition.org/

These businesses want to destroy Middle Class America and replace it with Third World Exploitation. The so called "Religious Leaders" believe that America owes every poor person in the world a living. They also benefit finacially from illegal alien money.
There is some good from this. At least our enemies have decided to name themselves. In addition, having such partisan groups as the ACLU and ACORN will turn most Arkansas citizens away from the illegal immigration agenda. Hopefully, this will show the Arkansas Republican Party that the left already has the upper hand on appeasing illegals.

Analysis: State lags in checks of illegals

BY JIM BROOKS
Posted on Sunday, October 28, 2007
http://www.nwanews.com/adg/News/205841/

Police in Arkansas haven’t been tracking the immigration status of suspected criminals as much as police in neighboring states do. Figures obtained from federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement reveal that Arkansas law enforcement officials are much less likely to check whether a suspect is in the state legally, according to an analysis by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The federal entity responsible for policing the nation’s borders received more than 728, 000 queries from police through the agency’s Law Enforcement Support Center in the federal fiscal year that ended Oct. 1, 2007. Only 218 of those were sent by law enforcement agencies in Arkansas. Comparing that with the state’s Hispanic population of 138, 283, according to the U. S. Census Bureau’s 2006 estimate, police in Arkansas filed one query with LESC for every 634 “Hispanic or Latino” residents. According to the Census Bureau, “Hispanics or Latinos” are those people who “classified themselves in one of the specific Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino categories listed on the Census 2000 questionnaire” as well as those who indicate that they are “other Spanish / Hispanic / Latino.”

By comparison, Mississippi, with slightly more than 46, 000 “Hispanic or Latino” residents in 2006, generated 3, 586 queries, or one for every 12 Hispanic residents. California posted the most, with 159, 393 queries, or one for every 52 Hispanic residents in the state. For the states surrounding Arkansas, there were: 638 queries in Louisiana, one for every 193 Hispanic residents, 10, 342 queries in Tennessee, one for every 18 Hispanic residents, 2, 589 queries in Missouri, one for every 62 Hispanic residents, 1, 260 queries in Oklahoma, one for every 194 Hispanic residents, and 39, 739 queries in Texas, one for every 211 Hispanic residents. Jeffrey Walker, a criminal justice professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, is a former criminal investigator in the military who has studied community changes and their impact on crime since the early 1990 s. He suggested two possible explanations for the difference between Arkansas and neighboring states.

“The first one is strictly logistical, and that is that Arkansas is still not very wired,” Walker said. “We’ve still got places where there is one [Arkansas Crime Information Center ] terminal and that is it. “ I think there are a lot of places out there where law enforcement is not using the technology,” he said. “It’s not that they’re not dealing with the people — they’re just not making the queries.” One of the agencies “out there” is the Polk County sheriff’s office in Mena, where Sheriff Mike Oglesby says his officers haven’t noticed a particular crime issue related to illegal aliens. “I don’t have a super-large [Hispanic ] population, but what we do have is in the south part of the county — in the Grannis and Wickes areas — where we have a Tyson plant,” said Oglesby, estimating that between the two towns there may be about 500 Hispanic residents in the county.

“If we find somebody that doesn’t have an ID and are causing problems, we’ll call Immigration,” said Oglesby. “But we’ve only had to do that one or two times in the past several years.” Walker suggested that officers are more focused on their primary role of policing the community and don’t want to bother with what they see as a federal function. “Another explanation is that police officers here are just not necessarily all that bent out of shape about illegal aliens,” Walker said. “They’re dealing with people and they either commit crimes or they don’t commit crimes. “ For all law enforcement, it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish,” he said. “If I’m driving down the street and I see a guy I suspect of being an illegal alien, I can pull him over and I can call ICE and they will eventually show up. “ But, I’ve got other things to do, so I may not be all that interested in ratting somebody around,” he said. A spokesman for ICE said the LESC query system is not a secret to police agencies. “The service is here, it’s well known or else we wouldn’t have 728, 000 inquiries,” said ICE spokesman Michael Gilhooly. “We provide a service which is available for all law enforcement nationwide,” Gilhooly said. “Why an agency chooses to use us or chooses not to is not something we have any control over.” Gilhooly said he would not identify which agencies in Arkansas filed the queries.

The problem of illegal immigration has been primarily focused in northwest Arkansas, where local and federal law enforcement officials say the bulk of crime committed by illegal aliens involves drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud or conspiracy. As a result, several law enforcement agencies in Northwest Arkansas have sent officers to train under a federal program referred to as 287 (g ). In all, 19 officers from four Northwest Arkansas law agencies — Rogers and Springdale police departments and the Washington and Benton county sheriff ’s offices — will work under the supervision of federal immigration agents to question, detain and process illegal aliens they encounter during their work. The officers completed a five-week training at ICE’s Boston field office in September. They will participate in a regional task force focused on building federal cases against illegal aliens charged with committing serious crimes.
Illegal aliens have become a growing part of the state’s population over the past two decades.

A study released in April by the Urban Institute, funded by Arkansas’ Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, indicated that of the state’s estimated foreign born population of 101, 000, half are here illegally. The Urban Institute’s estimate indicates that illegal aliens make up about 1. 5 percent of the state’s total population. According to the state Department of Correction, a look at the 14, 300 inmates in state prison in 2006 — the most recent year for which figures are available — revealed 158 illegal immigrants, or a little over 1. 1 percent of the total inmate population. In Little Rock, the state’s largest city police department, investigators say illegal aliens are more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators. Of the city’s 59 homicides in 2006, and 38 recorded so far in 2007, only one is believed to have been committed by an illegal alien.

On June 5, 2006, 17-year-old Bernardo Zavala was shot and killed outside an apartment complex on Butler Road in southwest Little Rock. Investigation led detectives to obtain a warrant for a 16-year-old, who police believe has fled the country and gone back to Mexico. As for robberies, only one this year is believed to have been committed by illegal aliens. “We do have quite a few cases where illegal aliens are the victims,” said Little Rock police detective Sgt. Bruce Maxwell. Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said illegal aliens are a “shadow population,” whose distrust of law enforcement officials may make them less likely to report crimes. “These are individuals who can be victimized who sometimes feel they can’t report the crimes to police,” Thomas said. He said if the illegal alien residents of his city believed local police would be undertaking federal immigration duties, they might be even less likely to cooperate with authorities when crimes occur in their community. “That perception is there already, and because of that, there is a degree of hesitation to come forward,” the chief said. Thomas said that his officers are already having to “babysit” suspects because of the limited jail capacity, and adding the time and effort necessary to conduct immigration checks would be another burden.

“We have enough to do with our regular duties to take up what we see as a federal issue,” Thomas said. “But if there comes a point in time where we feel it is necessary to do some of those things, we’ll do them.” Thomas says his officers, if confronted with a situation, would investigate immigration violations. “If an officer has a reasonable cause to believe that a person they come into contact with is here illegally, we have things we can do,” he said. “If they don’t have paperwork, or have counterfeit paperwork, those are things we can take into account.” In those situations, police would contact ICE, the chief said.

What if an oil company's negligence had led to "only 1 murder" in a city? Would we not hear about it for a month? Because of pro-illegal government officials, it appears that we are going to have to work locally to get the police departments across Arkansas to use the 287 immigration enforcement program.

Two Immigration stories from freerepublic.com and a victory!

I saw these stories while browsing the website www.freerepublic.com

The pro-illegal crowd in Oklahoma are trying to overturn the will of the citizens with lawsuits:

Washington DC — The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) called the defeat today of the DREAM Act (S.2205) an important victory for Americans and a clear indication that the public will not be fooled by efforts to enact amnesty piece by piece. The 52-44 vote on a motion to proceed fell far short of the 60 votes necessary as the public, once again, vocally opposed amnesty legislation.
Today's failed attempt to pass the DREAM Act was the third time amnesty supporters ignored overwhelming public opposition to amnesty since June. This latest defeat should seriously discourage other efforts to reward illegal aliens and clear the way for Congress to move ahead with meaningful immigration enforcement. "Once again, it is clear that the only mandate that Congress has with regard to immigration is to enforce our laws, secure our borders, and protect our jobs," said Dan Stein, president of FAIR. "It's time for Congress to focus on the concerns of the American people, instead of the agenda of the people who have broken our laws." After failing to get the DREAM Act attached as an amendment to other legislation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) attempted to bring the bill to the floor as a stand-alone bill on short notice, hoping to avoid the sort of public attention that the protracted Bush-Kennedy bill attracted. FAIR, together with other immigration reform groups, and working closely with talk radio and other media, led the effort to inform the American people of this latest effort to pass an amnesty.
"Today’s vote proves that an active and informed public can prevail over the special interests who continually seek control of U.S. immigration policies," Stein continued. The defeat of the DREAM Act may also have wider implications, predicted FAIR. Other special interests had a series of amnesty bills ready to go had the DREAM Act succeeded. However, a statement made by the Act’s prime sponsor, Majority Whip Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), indicated that these other measures will not be considered for the remainder of this Congress. "The Senate has wasted enough time promoting legislation that would reward illegal immigrants and their employers. It is time for them to focus on immigration enforcement and attending to the many other important issues that face our nation," concluded Stein.

Congratulations to all of those who have fought against illegal immigration. We have defeated The Amnesty Bill, the Amnesty Lite Bill, and now this Amnesty if you have a child in America Bill! However, we still have a long way to go to fixing this country and Arkansas. All of these stories reflect the attitude of the pro-illegal agenda when they don't get their way. I am trying to setup a meeting in Little Rock for Nov 10th. I think I have found a place, I just have to check up on other events.

Poultry Plant Employees Charged With Hiring Illegal Aliens

(Missouri does what Arkansas needs to do)
By Marcus Kabel
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Seven employees of poultry processor George's Inc. were arrested Wednesday on federal charges of hiring illegal aliens at a Southwest Missouri plant that was raided by immigration authorities in May. John F. Wood, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, said the indictments and arrests show that no one is above the law when it comes to hiring illegal workers. The seven defendants are all employees of a George's processing plant in Butterfield, about 60 miles southwest of Springfield. All seven were involved in hiring or supervising employees at the plant, Wood said.

"This is an active and ongoing investigation," Wood said at a news conference. He declined to say if that investigation includes whether people higher up in the privately owned company are suspected of knowing about the illegal hiring. Springdale-based George's did not immediately respond to phone calls and e-mail requests for comment from The Associated Press. Immigration agents and police raided the Butterfield plant in May. They arrested 136 people -- mainly from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador -- on suspicion of being illegal immigrants. Prosecutors said most of the defendants charged Wednesday were expected to be released on bail. None have yet had a hearing where they could enter a plea.

Those named in the charges are Guadalupe Castro, 32, of Verona; Brad Vansandt, 48, and Dora Ruiz, 32, both of Monett; Jody Salinas, 29, and Billy Essley, 41, both of Cassville; Gary Creed, 31, of Washburn; and Hilda Gomez, 35, hometown unknown. Wood said prosecutors would ask that Ruiz be held without bail because she is on probation for a drug conviction in New Mexico. All seven were indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts each related to hiring and harboring illegal immigrants. Those charges are felonies that each carry a maximum 10 years in prison.

In addition, Castro, Gomez, Salinas, and Ruiz were each charged with aiding and abetting aggravated identity theft for allegedly helping illegal immigrants use valid Social Security numbers from other people. Wood said that felony charge carries a maximum two year sentence that must be served on top of any other term.

George's claims that they will "cooperate" with the investigation. Yet when the Butterfield Plant was raided in May, the illegal-hiring company issued a press release claiming that don't practice hiring illegal aliens. I'm proud of ICE and the State of Missouri for going after this company, but since our State Attorney General Dustin McDaniel works for the Hillary Clinton Campaign, it's unlikely that there's going to be any legal action from Arkansas. Hopefully, we can change that in 2008.

Agents zero in on felonious aliens

http://www.nwanews.com/adg/National/204335/

Jose Luis Loredo told police he was in Rogers visiting his sister when they arrested him in July on charges of altering a methadone prescription. Now, they say he has ties to a Texas prison gang and was hiding out in Rogers. In Madison County, Baudillo Castillo distributed meth from his rural home near Hindsville. A federal sting in 2006 snared Castillo and some of his relatives, including a daughter charged with retaliating against a federal witness. Loredo, a Mexican national, and Castillo, of Guatemala, are increasingly the kind of people whom immigration agents pursue in Arkansas, illegal aliens committing additional and serious crimes. Illegal immigrants have become a growing part of the state’s population over the past two decades. A study released in April by the Urban Institute, funded by Arkansas’ Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, indicated that of the state’s estimated foreign-born population of 101, 000, 1/2 are here illegally.
Ten years ago, federal immigration agents in Arkansas focused on raiding poultry processing plants. Agents with what was then the Immigration and Naturalization Service arrested illegal workers, put them on a plane and deported them to Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador. These days, U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement concentrate more on arresting illegal aliens who it believes are involved in drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud or conspiracy.
The shift occurred when Immigration and Customs Enforcement came into being in 2003 under the Department of Homeland Security, replacing the Immigration and Naturalization Service. It is charged with finding and deporting illegal aliens. In Northwest Arkansas, illegal aliens like Loredo and Castillo soon will have more to worry about, because local police are training to work with immigration agents assigned to Arkansas. Nineteen police officers in Benton and Washington counties returned in September from training to enforce immigration law under the program known as 287 (g ). They plan to start a criminal apprehension task force and work in jails to identify illegal aliens not only for deportation but for federal prosecution. The Arkansas State Police and the Fort Smith Police Department also plan to apply to put officers in the 287 (g ) program. Since 2006, the U. S. attorney’s office in Fort Smith has prosecuted roughly 100 immigration-related cases. Most of the defendants were previously deported aliens who had returned to the United States. Unlike the plant workers who are deported voluntarily, these defendants were accused of additional crimes that elevated their illegal status to a federal criminal matter. Many are aggravated felons — aliens with felony convictions — and criminal aliens who belong to violent street gangs and who the government considers a threat. Recent federal cases include: Dozens of aliens distributing meth and other drugs in Northwest Arkansas. Aliens smuggling aliens. Aliens using forged or phony documents to obtain jobs, mortgages and welfare benefits. Aliens with ties to gangs.
Bob Balfe, U. S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, said federal prosecutors bring charges based on evidence gathered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Balfe said the 287 (g ) officers working in Northwest Arkansas will serve as a force multiplier to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which has 12 agents in the western district. “Once the 287 (g ) task force is up and running, our caseload will go up dramatically,” Balfe said. “The focus of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement ] is already on conspiracy, trafficking and fraud. With 287 (g ), we expect more of these type of cases to be referred to our office. We have the capacity to prosecute these additional cases, and we’ve made it clear to [Immigration ] that we will.”
The U. S. attorney’s office in Little Rock, which covers the rest of the state, also is prosecuting immigration-related cases.
Acting U. S. Attorney Jane Duke didn’t know exactly how many cases were filed this year. “Our office has been very aggressive in pursuing these types of matters,” Duke said. “We work closely with ICE and have had a number of high-profile cases recently.” SMUGGLING In western Arkansas, virtually all the methamphetamine trafficking stems from Mexican-based producers, Balfe said. As a result, many of the federal drug cases involve Hispanics, and some are illegal aliens. Castillo helped operate a large meth trafficking ring in NW Arkansas.
Castillo and three others pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to distribute meth. Sentencing hasn’t been set. After they serve their sentences, they’re expected to be deported. The Castillo organization purchased pound after pound of methamphetamine in Texas and drove it to Northwest Arkansas hidden in vehicles, court documents state. They distributed drugs from homes in Carroll and Madison counties, and prosecutors said some proceeds were funneled back to Mexico through a money remitter business in Berryville, court documents show. They were arrested in October 2006 after federal agents wiretapped their cell phones and tracked the drug transactions. The case dovetailed into federal charges against Castillo’s daughter Karla Castillo and his nephew Leon Castillo. Karla Castillo pleaded guilty this month to retaliating against a government witness who testified against Baudillo Castillo, her father. Prosecutors said Karla Castillo damaged the informant’s car in April when they crossed paths at a Taco Bell drivethrough in Springdale.
Immigration agents have a hold on Karla Castillo, meaning they’re investigating her residency status. She is here on a visa, court documents state. Her cousin Leon Castillo was sentenced in July to three years’ probation after immigration agents said he had a forged visa. He lived with his wife and children in Rogers and worked at a Best Buy store when he was arrested in December. Attorney Chadd Mason said Leon Castillo came to the United States legally, but that he forged his visa after it expired. His immigration status came to light during the investigation into his uncle. Prosecutors said Leon Castillo wasn’t involved in the drug ring. “Leon’s been here most of his life,” Mason said. “He works and pays taxes. He’s a good kid.”
He was convicted in April of possessing a fraudulent identification document. It’s unclear whether he’ll be deported, Mason said. Leon Castillo was convicted of a misdemeanor, a crime rarely prosecuted federally. Rod Reyes, agent in charge of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Fort Smith, said agents prefer to pursue aliens who are committing serious crimes. “We’d rather spend our resources on felonies” Reyes said. “Felony convictions have more of an impact. There is jail time, in addition to [deportation ].”
BACK AGAIN Illegal aliens caught in the country the first time often opt for voluntary deportation. Voluntary “removal” is an administrative action, not a criminal charge. If the alien returns, however, he’s committed a federal felony called illegal re-entry. If an alien is convicted of certain felony crimes in the United States, is deported and returns, the offense is called aggravated re-entry or “illegal re-entry of an aggravated felon.” Dozens of aliens are prosecuted every year in Arkansas for illegal and aggravated re-entry. Many have jobs and families here.
Ciriaco Sanchez-Gonzalez was convicted in April of aggravated re-entry. Sanchez-Gonzalez told immigration agents he paid a smuggler $ 1, 500 to return to the United States in 2006. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison in July. He’d been deported twice — in 2000 and again in 2006. In 2000, he was convicted in

That's the way the story ends, don't know why. When you see an Arkansas citizen hooked on Methanphetamines or hear about an overdose, you can thank those who support illegal immigration.

Mexican Opposition Protesters Tear Down Statue of Former President Vincente Fox

Sunday , October 14, 2007
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301606,00.html

BOCA DEL RIO, MEXICO — Opposition protesters egged and then tore down a bronze statue of former Mexican President Vicente Fox down on Saturday, just hours after it was erected.
Workers put up the commemorative statue before dawn in the city of Boca del Rio, in Veracruz state. But by 9 a.m. some 100 angry protesters, many of them members of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, surrounded the figure. Fox, of the conservative National Action Party, ended 71 years of PRI rule with his historic election in July 2000.The crowd launched eggs at the statue, fastened a rope around its neck and pulled it to the ground, breaking off the right hand and damaging the base. One man danced atop the statue, while another strummed a guitar and sang songs insulting Fox.

"We came to represent society because we don't want this monument here," said Adolfo Mota, a PRI lawmaker in Mexico's lower house of congress who led the protest. "As residents of Veracruz, it strikes us as an act of provocation."Boca del Rio Mayor Francisco Gutierrez de Velasco, a member of Fox's party, condemned the acts but said municipal police did not intervene because the statue is the state's property. An inauguration ceremony scheduled for Sunday was canceled until further notice. Fox has been fighting allegations since September that he illegally enriched himself during his presidency, and Mexico's congress opened an investigation into the charges.

This lazy corrupt dictator is traveling the US peddling his new book "Revolution of Hope". From what I've seen in reviews and interviews, the book is only the millionth attempt to blame America for Mexico's poverty. There is some condemnation of the PRI, Fox's political opponents in Mexico who's 70 years of corruption is even worse than his own. The main theme of the book appears to be that the Fox administration was a rags to riches fairytale and nothing was his fault. We can only hope that lazy corrupt leaders like Fox will end up like Mussolini, Nicolae Ceauşescu, and other dictators; judged by those they exploited. Here are some of the accomplishments of the Fox Administration along with some video footage:

Over 600 gruesome murders of women went unsolved in Juarez, Mexico.
80% of crimes go unreported in Mexico City because of police corruption.
Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico and the world has a monopoly on 90% of the telephone lines. 10 of the 26 Latin American billionares live in Mexico.
$2.3 billion goes to bribing Mexican Government officials, with the poorest paying 14% of their income in bribes.
Mexico's Unemployment rate is 40% and over 53% of Mexico's people are below the poverty line.
