Report on SB799

Several Conservative activist from Secure Arkansas arrived at the Senate around noon and took positions in front of the Senate. We were able to flag down a few Senators as they moved around before the session started. We also talked to some state representatives who let us know that they would vote SB799 down if it reached the Arkansas House. We decided to use a posterboard sign that was very effective in getting our message to the senators and the media. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette was the first to talk to us. The rest waited until after the vote. There were several bills before SB799 so we had to wait until around 4:00pm before SB799 came up. We kept people outside, including myself, while others went into the Senate Gallery. There were only a few supporters of SB799 in the gallery and only one who appeared to lobby. Rita Sklarr of the ACLU showed up and chatted with a few senators. More here:

SB799 defeated and Events

SB799 was stopped in the AR Senate on Monday March 30th. It needed 18 votes but only got 13. There is a danger that SB799 could still be re-introduced like it was after it had been voted down in the Senate Education Committee last Monday. www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2009/=sb799

While we are fighting to stop Arkansas Taxpayers from yet another bailout to illegal immigration, there is a Federal effort to spend more educational services on illegal aliens. www.fairus.org/site/News2

SB799 fails. No tuition for illegals!

SB799, the in-state tuition for illegal aliens bill, was defeated in the Senate Education Committee. I want to thank all those who called their legislators about SB799. Several Conservative groups participated in stopping this bill from passing, including keeparkansaslegal. The Senate was suppossed to adjorn around 2:00pm, but it ended up being around 3:00pm. Joyce Elliott first introduced SB799 and then took questions from the Senators. Senator Kim Hendren asks Joyce Elliott about the legal problems that will occur if SB799 were to pass. Joyce Elliott attempts to claim that the legal problems have been somehow resolved and then claims that it doesn't really matter. After this video, there is testimony from those for and against SB799. That video footage will be posted at a later time.

US Senate supporting illegal immigration

Got this in my email from Grassfire:
From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance

The Senate is voting on yet another massive spending bill -- the$410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that contains more than 2,900 pages.Worse yet, the bill is laden with 8,500 pork-filled earmarks-- including $473,000 for National Council of La Raza! As you know, La Raza (which means "The Race") is a far-left Latino groupthat has brazenly promoted amnesty and even supported radical Mexicannationalism within our borders. In addition, the spending bill includes…
--$1.8 million for pig odor and manure management
--$200,000 for a "tattoo-removal violence-outreach program" in Los Angeles
--$1.9 million for a water taxi service in Connecticut

Just as bad, the bill does not require competitive bid which willlead to corruption and insider deals for our tax dollars! Well-connectedfriends of members of Congress and the lobbyists will get the contractswithout even having to compete for them!+ + Fax the Senate now and say "Purge The Pork"President Obama who once pledged to go line-by-line to remove wasteful spending now says it's too late to purge the pork from the spending bill. Well, heis wrong! Late last week, the Senate did not have the votes to pass the bill andsome Democrats are now saying they will oppose this pork-laden version ofthe omnibus spending bill. The vote will be very close! That s why I m asking every team member to take action right now in two important ways:

#1 -- Fax your two Arkansas senators and 10 key senators right now(these are the most vulnerable and most likely to be swayed by grassrootspressure). Go here to use our FaxFire system to schedule your faxes or to get the contact information to send your own faxes:http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?U=16838&CID=112&RID=16729596
We must flood the Senate with faxes immediately.

#2 -- Call your two senatorsAfter scheduling your faxes, call your Arkansas senators and tell themyou oppose the omnibus spending bill. Urge them to vote "NO" as long as it has 8,500 pork-laden earmarks in it. Sen. Lincoln 202-224-4843 Sen. Pryor 202-224-2353
(You can also use the main Senate Switchboard at (202-224-3121)

We re hearing that the first key vote is expected this evening -- with other crucial votes expected as soon as Tuesday.Kenneth, we have a window of opportunity to short-circuit this massivepork bill, but I am completely dependent on your help right now. Please... take action and tell the Senate to "Purge The Pork."Steve Elliott, President Grassfire.org

P.S. After scheduling your faxes and calling your senators, please forward this message to your friends urging them to take action with you by clicking here:

We will be joining other conservatives in an "Arkansas Tea Party" Saturday March 14th at 5:00pm at the Peabody in Little Rock. US Senator and Porkulus Supporter Blanche Lincoln will be starting her re-election campaign along with Vice Gaff Machine Joe Biden.

Got this in my email about an event I posted earlier:
Announcing a new Meetup for Central Arkansas Campaign for Liberty (AR 2nd CD)!
What: Arkansas Tea Party!
When: March 14, 2009 5:00 PM
Where: Peabody Hotel Little Rock Arkansas
Meetup Description: As a result of Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC earlier this week, there is now a nationwide movement to hold tea parties at various locations throughout the US in order to protest Washington's economic policies and liberal spending bills! Conservatives, Liberals, and Independents are all involved in this effort! Talk about bipartisan support...this movement is full of bipartisan support! Perhaps the Adminstration and our no good, spend, spend, spend, and spend some more Congress could learn a thing or two from this effort! First, they are going to have to get their heads out of their asses! Perhaps this movement will get their attention! This will be a peaceful rally to unite our voices and express the love that we have for our great nation and the principles it was founded on. We want our politicians to hear loud and clear that we are tired of the bailouts, the wasteful Washington spending and the push towards the socialization of this country! We want less government! We want to decide where our hard earned money goes instead of Washington taking it and using it to buy votes, doling it out to special interest groups and pork barrel projects! We want our constitutional rights preserved and protected, not trampled on!Let's exercise our right to free speech and be a part of history as the peaceful reclamation of our country is underway!
We will be assembling March 14th outside the Peabody Hotel at 5pm. It just so happens that our very own Blanche Lincoln will be kicking off her 2010 campaign with all of Arkansas' Washington representatives and even Joe Biden will be attending.I have had a few questions about what is needed, as of right now we need no money, all we ask is for you to bring yourself and anyone who you can muster. Bring tasteful to the point signs, a clever chant, and an idea of what to say if you are interviewed. Remember we want to be heard not laughed at so keep things simple and to the point. Stay away from tangents and lets stick to the issue: Washington works for ME!Learn more here:
