No Security and Prosperity for the Arkansas Taxpayer
Little Rock, AR – August 20, 2007 – On August 20th and 21st, US President George Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and Mexican President Felipe Calderon will meet in Montebello, Canada for the Security and Prosperity Plan (SPP). The SPP will increase immigration to the US and weaken our borders with Canada and Mexico. This plan is being done without the approval of Congress and more importantly, the American People. KeepArkansasLegal urges the elected officials of Arkansas to oppose the SPP.
On August 13th, several government departments testified before the State Agencies Committee about the cost of illegal immigration. Their testimony showed that the current immigration system in the US cost Arkansas about $170 million a year. The SPP will increase that cost by liberalizing migration. A federal lawsuit against Tyson foods by it’s employees showed that Tyson's practice of hiring illegal immigrants depressed wages 10-30%. The suit further showed that the company violated federal racketeering laws by conspiring with the National Council of La Raza and League of United Latin American Countries not to question the employment applications with a Hispanic surname. Tyson Foods makes about $26 billion according to wikipedia. Eisenhower was right in stating that illegal immigration had created, “a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government." The same can be said about the SPP. Only corrupt businesses like Tyson Foods will benefit from the SSP.
Congressman Duncan Hunter recently added Amendment 630 to HR 3074, which will deny federal funds to the N. American superhighway part of the SPP. HR3074 is now in the US Senate. Arkansas needs to it’s part in forcing Mexico to act like a real country and forcing companies like Tyson Foods to act like American businesses.
