Arkansas Immigration Updates

Monday March 5th was the last day to file bills in the Arkansas 86th General Assembly. Here are some updates on bills that concern immigration and other stuff.

HB2120- AN ACT TO REQUIRE THAT A VOTER PROVIDE PROOF OF IDENTITY WHEN VOTING. Was voted down in the State Agencies and Government Affairs Committee Wednesday. It was filed only 2 days before and so there really wasn't enough time to get enough public support behind the bill. Meanwhile, the NAACP, ACORN, ACLU, and some other leftist managed to get some people to testify against the bill. They gave the usual whine that the bill will scare away people from voting, that it is too much of a burden, and of course that voter fraud does not exist. The NAACP guy claimed that proof of identity when voting was the same as a poll tax! The bill is now a deffered bill and has one more chance getting out of committee. Hopefully, we can build public support for the bill by then.
___________
HR1003- REQUESTING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE CONGRESS TO SECURE OUR NATION S BORDERS AND TO DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION POLICY. was a deffered bill in committee, meaning it's on the agenda but not brought up yet.
____________
SB981- In state tuition for illegals. Thanks to public outcry, SB981 is currently not scheduled on any agenda! Wilkins, the bill's sponsor, may try to sneak the bill in later.
_____________
Mexican Consulate- A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO UTILIZE $50,000 FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND TO ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEXICAN CONSULATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
____________
Of course this bill passed by all the board members. The County Assessor's office is still unable to locate who owned the land that the consulate is being built on. There is also a DVD of City Board of Director's Meeting on Dec 19 where they voted on the Consent Agenda to give the $50,000 to the Mexican Consulate. It was read with a group of other resolutions. There was NO DISCUSSION. No questions. Nothing. Just unanimously agreed to all items on the Consent Agenda. The video footage from the March 6th meeting shows that Mayor Stodola and the LR Board Members are in full support of the Little Rock taxpayers paying for the illegal alien supporting Mexican consulate.
___________

There are some other immigration reform efforts being worked on. I will let you know ASAP.
