Arkansas Immigration Bill passes House (Time to hit the phones!)



HB2779, THE ARKANSAS TAXPAYER AND CITIZEN PROTECTION ACT OF 2007, has just passed the House of Representatives! The vote was 63-25 with 12 not voting. The bill will now go before a Senate Committee, the website so far hasn't named it yet. Right now is the time to leave messages to all Arkansas Senators to support HB2779. The full text of HB2779 is below:

SECTION 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the “Arkansas Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007.”


SECTION 2. Arkansas Code Title 5, Chapter 60, Subchapter 1 is amended
to add an additional section to read as follows:
5-60-126. Concealing persons illegally in the United States.
(a) It is unlawful for a person to knowingly perform an overt act designed to conceal, harbor, or shelter from detection another person in any place, including without limitation any building or means of transportation, knowing that the other person has come to, entered, or remained in the United States in violation of law. (b) Upon conviction, any person violating subsection (a) of this section is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

HB2781, AN ACT TO AMEND ARKANSAS LAW CONCERNING VERIFICATION OF CITIZENSHIP WHEN PROVIDING CERTAIN PUBLIC BENEFITS AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE TYPES AND DOLLAR AMOUNT OF SERVICES PROVIDED TO ILLEGAL ALIENS, is in the State Agencies and Government Affairs Committee but is currently not on any agenda.
